So I really like the look of the split shank ring settings. I'm most likely getting something custom made with aspects of different examples I've found and I wanted some input/ideas that come to mind.

Fundental starting piece- HOF Felicity.

HPIM0537%20(6).jpg

HPIM0556%200(4).jpg

I really like the sleek profile, and with how low the bands join in it really just seems to stay out of the way of the main stones spotlight, no detraction. And id assume less overall height gives less chance of snagging things? I also like the surprise stones in the bottom, Adds some extra again without detracting from the stone.

My modification, i want to blend it into something more like this pearlmansdanielkcush2.jpg

I would keep the split shank split a little longer like the HOF, but i like the idea of slimming down the overall band as the two shanks meet and changing over to a single diamond pave, #1 reason being that I think it looks miles better when attached to a wedding band. Just seems like a better blend to me.

So besides comments on that general idea heres what else I'm thinking about.

A.) By using a wedding band with the HOF surprise stones ill be rubbing up against diamonds (and hiding them). Seems a little wastefull. So im thinking about ditching those at the bottom and putting in a middle bar around the stone like this Daniel K and adding diamonds there.Daniel%20k%20US.jpg

Which brings me to a two fold question. If adding in the middle bar should i just have the bands meet there like in the Daniel K design? And also, do you think adding in that second middle bar along with the band raising higher up will take away from the stone? Im planning on a 1ct solasfera, and one of the things i really liked about that original HOF was that it still looked very good even with that .74ct diamond. I've heard that Daniel K doesnt look so great without Higher Ct. stones.

Opinions/ideas please!

This is my favorite split shank, period. I'd get it without the engraving if you want a more contemporary look.

As an owner of multiple split shank rings (yes I love them), I wanted to share some tips with you.

1. Split shanks work well with minimal metal. The HoF makes me cringe just looking at how much metal is showing and how chunky the prongs look.
2. Beauty of a split shank comes from flows and curves. I found very few custom jeweler is able to get the flows and curves right. The end result is a ring that you didn't envision although technically they did mimic the design. See "My Failed Attempt" below.
3. For smaller stones, the splits will not be as wide because the diamond is smaller. You will have to play around to balance the width and length to make the splits look right.

For reference, here are some of my split shanks that I have pictures handy of. I still have a few more that I wish I had pictures to explain.

My Engagement Ring
This is an example of a small split going into one shank.

My Engagement Ring - Wrong Design
This is an example of the same design but going into two bands. I feel the same way you do - going into one band looks better.

My Failed Attempt
This is what happens if your jeweler is not used to making delicate rings and curves. This was my attempt at making the Daniel K ring you linked above. I was very disappointed in the outcome as it looked nothing like the original in my opinion - yes, the overall design is similar but the lines were not right.

My Garnet Split Shank
This ring is an example of what a longer split will look like on a finger. My personal preference is to have smaller splits on an e-ring so that there is room to see the single band. I adore this ring and it was an inspiration to my e-ring. This ring gets a lot of wear and one day ... I will remake it in platinum.

My Cartier Inspired Ring
Want to go for a more unique split shank? Something like the Cartier Ballerine is gorgeous! This is my tourmaline ring.

My Amethyst Ring
THis is an example of splits that don't curve so they look like two double bands. Also notice the prongs are different - they don't look like claws.

This ring is gorgeous! It isn't a traditional split and doesn't prop up the diamond. The design is very unique and I think works well with numerous diamond sizes. It will not be cheap to make and requires a very skilled jeweler. This particular ring was made by 23rd Street Jewelers - I would love to find the bench that made this ring ... I will be in heaven!

This is lovely. It also has a small halo which adds size to a smaller diamond!

WOW! I love how the curves in the band just seem to flow into the basket. it's gorgeous :) :)

To the OP: do you want to go custom-made or are you looking for a stock setting? what is your budget? There was another poster a while back who got a custom setting similar to the HOF one you are looking at for a 0.9 carat Octavia Asscher, his was done by Wink.

Here is the thread

Well Im probably gunna have to go custom? Because I've yet to find exactly what im looking for with the exception of a couple major designer brands (which are way out of my range), and im not trying to spend $$ on a name anyways. Problem is im not to sure what going custom costs. Im really trying to stay under $2000 :(, and settings are just all over the map price wise. Ill see a quite nice looking one at WF for 1300, then another somewhere else for 3k+.

I really want that exaggerated curve. Not a straight split. Its that very curved split that grabs my attention. And then eventually tied into a single diamond pave instead of doubled the entire way down. That daniel K split charmypoo posted, the one split the entire way would be perfect if it joined up into a single. The first one (which already does join together) the split is very short. I still like it a bit longer even if its a super small gap. It ties the look better i think.

maybe contact some vendors for quotes? I think the one vetchecker got was similar to what you are looking for, and if I recall he had a similar budget.

I didn't actually post a Daniel K ring .. which one are you talking about just to make sure I understand. I think it is personal preference but I like a short split much better because it makes it look like a single shank facing up but there is interest when looking at it closely. For me, my fingers are really tiny and any longer split would appear like a double band.

Are you planning to go with white gold or platinum?

I was looking around and Leo Ingwer and Gabriel & Co both make some really affordable split shank rings. Good Old Gold carries them. From what I have seen, most of them are under $1000 for white gold - I have no idea what their quality is like. I don't think any of these are right but I am not sure if you can find a custom made ring within your budget.

After re-reading, I was referring to your two custom Leon rings. What I was basically getting at is I prefer the band to merge into a single shank (like the version you kept), but I prefer the split shank to remain split longer and more exaggerated before it merges (like the split shank "booboo" ring". My perfect version would have been a mesh of the two :), but understand you specifically wanted your splits to merge quicker and closer up.

As far as metal, most probably white gold. And purely for price as platinum can add large sums depending on the piece.

As im a "custom ring newb", what do customs generally cost? As much as I'd like to spruce the ring up as much as possible within my budget the main goal here is just to get the shank design the way I want it and hopefully minimize the how much stone is hidden by prongs. So it doesn't necessarily need to turn into something extravagant!

Thankyou for the help everyone

Hi I was wondering who makes the ring on the picture ( third picture w the band, small split). I love the ring and showed it to my bf but I didn't know who makes it. Please let me know. We are doing serious ring shipping and this ring is my favorite! Thank You in advance.

are you referring to charmypoo's ring? it was made by leon mege.

I think it is cazten's post. It's the picture after the two felicity rings. Looks like someone's wearing it and also has a band in the picture.

OOH charmy! stunning rings- I do love a good split shank :)
