Hello everyone, I ahve been a long time reader of this forum (for about 6 months) and have been trying to educate myself in the ways of the diamond. First, this forum is brilliant, I have learned so much already and the people seem so polite and honest, as well as having great expertise. Thankyou for everythig I have learned so far.......

I am starting to look towards popping the big question to my other half, but first need to arrange the all important ring........

I have spent 6 months on this forum reading and learning, as well as looking at vendors such as WF and GOG etc.

My issue is that I am not on an unlimited budget (looking at around $3000 for the diamond along with some extra towards a simple white gold/platinum setting).

So, I am trying to balance the SIZE of the stone with the QUALITY.

I have been sticking to the WF stones (although have looked at other sites) - mainly because I want to have one place provide the stone and the setting (looking at the legato sleek lines setting from Wf). apart from that specific setting, WhiteFlash appear to have a great reputation amongst PSersfor their settings.

Can people give me an opinion on this stone

To me (non-diamond expert) it looks pretty reasonable, and comes up as excellent (1.2) on the Holloway Cut Advisor for light return fire, and scintillation with a very good for spread.

This to me appears to be a good balance between size and quality, with an AGS Excellent (1) cut.

Two things bother me:

1) the AGS report lists ''negligible flourescence (bloody spelling!!); and
2) colour of H

My main concern with these 2 things is that I want either a white gold setting or a platinum setting, and I am concerned that any colour in the stone will be more prominent with these metals than they would be with yellow gold.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have so many other questions, but think that will do for a start!!

Once again, great forum people and thankyou all in advance!!

Loooks great. Don't worry about H color. .8 ct is not enough diamond to look warm.

Negligible fluor means you can't see it.

Put it on hold!!! .8 to 1.00- is very desirable size, and price looks attractive.

Thankyou so much Julie, I feel much better already having someone atleast tell me I''m on the right track....

Have sent an email to Whiteflash to ask a couple of things and will see how it all pans out....

Its not as easy as just buying a stone from here (live in Australia), just trying to work out the logistics of purchasing, delivery, paying import taxes and charges etc etc......

If I buy a ring and stone from the US I''ll get much better value and much bigger selection of better quality diamonds, but the process will add near enough to $1000 to the total bill by the time I pay for shipping, insurance and customs charges....

Thanks again - no doubt I''ll be asking more questions as the process continues.......

Looks good :) nothing to worry about with the colour or flouro :).

I would reserve it it is zero for light performance just got dinged on the polish and symmetry :)

ETA: I also bought in the US from Oz as well and yes you get more for your money this way there is a thread on here somewhere listing all the costs for duties and such :) I will see if I can find it :)

Deelight you are fantastic.....

all this diamond buying is making me hungry so I''m gonna pop home from work now and grab some dinner.......

will continue my hunt this evening (if the other half isn''t watchin) or tomorrow (if the boss isn''t watchin)

Thanks so much!

No worries and your welcome :)

Hey Joe and Welcome! If you haven''t done so already, take a long look at their settings at Whiteflash. Then you can have your beautiful diamond set and ready to go in one shot. Platinium prices have really shot up in the last year, so those settings are a bit steeper. White gold would be my choice. H color is still white and will look fine. Also quite a few people in OZ have bought from White flash, so don''t worry too much. And if you have any more questions, feel free to ask away! You can always try the search box too.

That is a super diamond, can''t go wrong, excellent choice!!!!

sob, sob.....

someone else has snapped up that diamond.....sob.....

Oh well, plenty more diamonds in the sea and all that

At least I know that I''m on the right track and thanks to the people on Pricescope I feel like I have the knowledge to continue my quest for hte perfect stone...... also feel so much more secure in knowing that I can ask for help/advice etc.....

Although this stone has gone, I have had some of my other questions answered by the good people at Whiteflash, so I''m much more confident notw to progress towards purchase!!

Thanks for all your advice so far..... I''ll keep you all posted on progress

Regards,

Diamond Joe
