Good Afternoon

I would really appreciate some insight into the images for this stone intended for an engagement ring. The numbers look good from what I've read at various places as far as the cut is concerned. However, the ASET sent to me was pretty dark and hard to look at, but when I enhanced it it looks a bit questionable with all the green. To my untrained eye the Ideal-Scope looks good though...What do y'all think?

0.70 CWT E VVS2

Depth -61.1%
Table - 56%
Crown angle - 35%
Crown height - 15.5%
Pavilion angle - 40.6%
Pavilion depth - 42.5%
Star length - 50%
Lower half - 80%
Girdle - Medium, faceted 3%
Cutlet - none

Thanks!

Looks very good to me. Do you have any normal images of the stone?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I have two stone images as well as a heart and an arrow image. They are attached. There was a video of it but I don't have it unfortunately - looked really nice in it though.

I know this isn't a super duper ideal diamond, but I'm hoping this will do nicely until I can upgrade it in the future.

Appreciate the help!

hmm, I dont love the arrow image there. If you want to upgrade in the future, are you buying from a vendor with a good upgrade policy? Do you need VVS clarity? Given that it's under 1ct you could easily go with VS2 or SI1 to save $ (if you want).
Do you mind sharing your budget and size/clarity/color preferences?

I don't need vvs at all and would like to keep it at vs2 or better. I'd like to keep it in the DEF range and 0.70 is about as small as I'm interested in.

My budget is around 2500. Times are tough...

who is the vendor selling the one you posted above? And has your GF/whoever is recieving the ring seen G/H color stones? Not trying to push lower colors necessarily or SI1 stones, but if you want to upgrade then I would strongly recommend going with a vendor who has the best upgrade policy (e.g. $1 more rather than having to spend 2x the amount, etc). And a G and eye clean SI1 will be easier to find. But again, totally up to you and your comfort (and your intended's preferences).

EDIT. Essentially you'll need to balance desires here (everyone does, since no one has an unlimited budget). You can either get a slightly bigger stone (e.g. .7 or higher) without a $1 upgrade policy, OR you can get a smaller stone (between .6 and .7), G color, etc, with a $1 upgrade policy. The issue is which you prefer--whiter? Bigger? Better upgrade policy? Which is the most important thing?

The whole eye-clean idea is kind of why I was wanting to stay in the VS area since I'll be ordering online. While I know pretty much everywhere has a 30 day return period I'd rather not have to send something back that is supposedly eye-clean. I'm not sure how common this truly is but I've read a some not so happy accounts of that occurring.

We have been to a few places around town and looked at different colored stones. While it isn't noticeable when not comparing side by side, I think she would still prefer a piece of paper with the letter D E or F if you know what I mean.

I really don't intend to upgrade the diamond in the immediate future so I'm not too terribly concerned with the upgrade policy. With a stone this cheap I will be spending at least double when the time comes to replace it.

Totally makes sense. Just wanted you to be aware of the different upgrade policies so you knew the trade offs and pros/cons of each choice, etc.

Here's a potential with an ideal cut: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...or-si1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-8233234?a_aid=ps

This one also looks good in terms of cut: https://www.adiamor.com/Diamonds/0....Cut-Round-Diamond/D44632219?&refer=pricescope

Definitely. Thanks for the mention of upgrade policies and thanks for your thoughts on the stone itself.

Do any of y'all other experts have any thoughts or comments?

May be worth mentioning the price of the stone at ~$2340 and what are my chances of finding one better than this at my low budget? It's hard (at least for me) to compare since unfortunately stones this cheap don't have any scope images listed to compare with from what I've seen.

Again I appreciate your input lovedogs . For the record I love dogs quite a bit myself!

FYI I think the original stone you posted is a solid choice for the price, even without an upgrade policy, etc.

The long green parts extending from the girdle in the ASET indicate the diamond has some crown painting.
This can increase the apparent brightness but decrease some contrast.
GIA or AGS will lower the cut grade if they consider the effect overly negative. If you search painting and digging here or online you can learn more.

Thank you Mr. Holloway.

In your opinion of the image is it enough to be concerned about? Are you able to discern what the reason behind this would be? From what I've read it appears there can be quite a few different reasons the cutter would do this. I suppose it isn't too terribly negative as GIA graded as EEE?

Do you think this was done to eliminate light leakage? I hope...

It is usually done to increase the yield a little. There may have been an inclusion removed or some need for a wavy girdle that could be straightened out a bit.
I can not say - but it would be a good idea to have it sent to an expert appraiser like Neil or Dave who can make the assesment.

I would imagine it is one of those circumstances given the images... I will be getting it independently appraised here in Houston when it arrives as well since no one has thrown up any bright red flags.

There are a couple individuals listed in the appraisals section that are in the area - has anyone had any experience with them?

Does anyone else have any more insight on the stone itself?

Thanks for the help
