Hi guys was thinking of upgrading my current princess 0.80ct to a 1.2 or 1.3ct princess a while ago, however am now thinking of a cushion instead.
What do people think of cushions vs princesses? Am a bit confused with resources I have read online as some say cushions face up smaller than princesses whilst others say the opposite. Could someone clarify?

Also what do people think of these stones:
1.02ct cushion

1.02ct - 2.jpg1.02 - 3.jpg

1.07ct cushion

Never mind the size charade; one might say that the clipped corners have shortened the sides, but since the clippings are so small, there is barely any change in surface.

There is not much to complain about the cushions with arrows, except that their contrast pattern is so - round. I do not know of many squared options with carefully considered optics www.

What do you think of the above cushions?

BG has said his cushions are actually larger than princesses for the same carat. Can anyone verify this?

Would not know at all. But the sparkle pattern of these two would be noticeably different I would guess. If it were me, I would have to do a real life comparison to see if you would like it. Can BG send you some videos?

They're very different looks for me. A cushion has that old world chunkiness so depending on the setting, I think they can look big. I think you'd have to like the idea of trying something entirely new as well as whether the cut will look bigger? I'm thinking a lot of princess settings protect the corners with prongs which can give them an illusion of being much bigger than the same size cushion in mm.

Preferences in cushions are really personal. I prefer chunky more antique faceting - rather than hearts & arrows (as you posted), but you need to find what makes your heart sing. Cushions actually can face up larger for their weight, or not. There is huge variability in this. I would spend some time looking at videos comparing cushions and princess cuts. They can be different animals.

Honestly, radiants sit between these two in terms of faceting and performance and might appeal.

I prefer cushions as I find they have a vintage vibe. I also like princesses but they seem more mordern to me. Cushions look like they would have an old soul, which I find appealing. My aunt has a beautiful princess with the L corners. Cushions can be set with more traditional prongs (if you're into that). Also I find warmer diamonds cut in a cushion look good since cushions look more antique-y anyway. Speaking of which, to me cushions look good in both white and yellow gold, whereas in my head princesses look better in white gold. I have no idea why I have these associations (maybe because all of my family member's princesses are in white gold?) To me a cushion is different, more interesting, more throwback. Just my random thoughts while I'm eating lunch.

You can compare them with AGS000 (well-cut) Princess cut stones here

As in these two stones would be noticeably different to a princess cut, or you think the two cushion cuts I posted are very different to each other? :S

Yeah, I like both princesses and cushions. I like a square look so either or is nice IF I can find a good cushion. Not a big fan of radiant cuts or Asshers with their polygonal type shape.
