Hi all

I am trying to buy a speciality cut diamond with a certain type of facet arrangement. I have so far seen and rejected a step cut cushion and several spring cuts and have now found 2 emerald shaped Crisscut diamonds which could be good candidates.

I'm not sure if I'm trying to do the impossible by finding a speciality cut diamond like this (with the scissor cut faceting) with excellent light performance.

To complicate matters these 2 diamonds are likely to be final sale and there may or not be the possibility to get an ASET. I wont be able to view them in person, so I will be relying on video, photos and the GIA cert and have requested an ASET but it remains to be seen if that can be provided.

Here are the photos:

The first diamond has table 67% depth 61.7%, medium girdle

The second diamond has table 67%, depth 67.4% and medium girdle

Unfortunately the second diamond is not photographed at the same angle as the first. I'm not able to upload the videos as they were emailed to me in a format which doesn't seem to be compatible with PS.

They are both GIA diamonds with excellent cut and polish and high color and clarity. The price is very similar between the 2 and seems on a par with other non-branded fancies with similar specs, so these aspects are good.

Should I steer clear of the more shallow of the two if I'm hoping for some fire? From the videos neither of these has a high crown angle but under spotlighting they both seem to have plenty of brilliance and fire.

These cuts aren't really emerald cuts as they have no step facets on the pavillion or the table. But they aren't true radiant cuts either. So its hard to know if there are any rules or guidelines on cut proportions which would be applicable to these.

Does anyone have any experience with Crisscuts, how they perform and what the ideal proportion ranges are for these diamonds?

If you are not sure which you’ll like, and there is NO return, and you can’t see them in person, pass.

I'm unaware of any ideal ranges. They are a propiatary cut and I don't recall even seeing their own ranges published. Its s cut meant to allow a pretty shallow stone. I like them in elongate rectangles.Maybe a trade member has more intel on cut paramaters. @Karl_K @Diamond_Hawk @Rockdiamond @Rhino @Wink

Hi All!
My perspective- general advice- I can't comment on specific stones being offered.
I will say that it's a cool cut in my opinion. That is to say, I have nothing against them.
But- I strongly advise consumers against buying a stone without a money back guarantee.
ASET videos and other photographic evidence gets you part way there.
In the case of Fancy Shapes in general, it's impossible to pin down a stone by numbers.

But the bottom line is that you really need to make sure you're covered, just in case you don't love it when it gets there, in person.

Those numbers tell you the problem with them, no consistency.
Local place to me was a dealer for them so got to play with a few and they were hit and miss.
Some were nice if you liked the personality of them, some were just blah.
Even the ones that were nice were not my cup of tea.
They are a bit different/quirky and really need to be seen to know if one will like them.

My crisscut cushion has a lot of brilliance but not much fire. It’s very different from other cuts and it took me three resets before I could really appreciate that. I definitely wouldn’t recommend buying one unless you can see it in person and return it if you don’t love it.

Thanks everyone, your replies have been a wake-up call. Without the option to inspect it in person with a return policy its not going to be a sensible option. :???:
