I have a .30 carat marquis that is a low I color, VS2. I am wanting to get a matching stone and a larger center stone (around .75 carat or maybe a little bigger). I would actually like the center stone to be a higher color grade. How high can I go in color on the center stone without the ring looking odd? Thanks for any and all opinions!

Come on guys! I need help. I've been looking at an F and a G color stone. While the G color seems to match better with my smaller diamond. I like the F color diamond a whole lot better and it doesn't appear to be that far off when looking at it in just regular lighting. It will be set in two-tone gold. Yellow gold shank and white gold heads. Will the F color center stone just be too white between the smaller I color diamonds?

Well, I've read that usually you have to go two color grades before you notice a difference but it's totally up to you and what your eye sees.

It sounds like you prefer the F colored stone. I say go for it!

Maybe you could get somewhere in the middle for the other .30c marquis? Like an H? Then when people look, the colors will all be pretty close to each other.

No one will tell you that you can't use a pair of darker side stones and a white center stone if YOU want to. Keeping stones within a grade or two will make them appear to reasonably match, but many pieces are built to show some contrast. There is nothing wrong with a contrasting situation if you don't mind the look of it.

Small diamonds tend to look a bit better in color than identically cut, larger diamonds. of the same GIA color grade. So, if you would use small sides and big center of even the same color, a certain degree of contrast might be seen.
