Ok,

so I am extremely thankful to have stumbled upon this site months ago, and am hoping for some advice. My finance proposed about a month ago but wanted me to help with the ring. He is currently away on work, but will return this coming weekend!!! YAY! I have searched local stores (not very fun!) and found 1 ring I liked, so I put it on layaway just in case. It is RB .46 S11 J, eye clean with 2 .10 side baguettes. I do like the ring, but I know I can get something of bigger and better quality online. The only problem for me is living in Canada! The shipping/taxes/duty always puts me over budget (1700 CAD). I know it is a small budget, but is all we can currently afford. Thankfully I have tiny hands (3.5), so most rocks look bigger. I have done lots of searching as to make sure I find the "right" one. I hope some of you may be able to assist me?! I have been looking mostly on JA as I like the fact I can see the diamonds ahead of time. I am hoping for something between .50-.65.

Thank you sooo much for any input!

xx

Hi Vness! Welcome to Pricescope! And it definitely can be done! Some of the more knowledgeable diamond folks will hopefully jump in here with some specific suggestions, but I wanted to ask if you've given any of the vendors a call? They would be able to give you pricing on shipping, customs info etc. as well as help you find a stone that fits your specifications.

I ran a quick search on Whiteflash in their expert selection area, and found a few that looked like they might work for you, but I'm unsure of the exchange rate between CAD and the US right now. I'd suggest giving James Allen a call, and perhaps Whiteflash (since I know they've shipped to CAD before) and/or Brian Gavin Diamonds (also done international shipping) etc. There are of course other vendors to choose from, but those are the 2 that I am familiar with personally, and I know they've both done international orders before. If you go with a simple setting, you should be able to get a lovely ring!

I''ve e-mailed JA today (it was too late to call), so I will see what they come back with. With exchange and duties, I''m able to spend around 1400 on the ring. I am planning on going with a solitare...that way we can spend the money on a nice diamond.

Cool.

I''d give you suggestions on stones, but I''m more of a setting person, LOL! Hopefully some of the diamond knowledge nuts will wander in here.

Do you have an idea of what you would like for color and clarity? That would help narrow down the search.

A simple white gold solitaire setting will run ~$300 US.

All 3 of those look great from what i know...I definitely do not want to skimp on the cut and colour is not such a big deal to me(nothing lower that a J). I would also want it to be eye clean, so SII is fine, as long as it is still eye clean. I really appreciate all the help so far. Does anyone have any suggestions for a really nice solitaire setting that isn''t too pricey?

Define not too pricey.

ETA: You may want to pick a diamond first, and then go with a setting from that vendor.

That GOG one is a stunner!

Ok, so these are the ones that I''ve been looking at. Everything seems in order...What do you think? I am leaning toward the 2mm Knife edge setting. Anyone have complaints about comfort??

Both images and numbers are excellent! I''d ask to have the gemologist at the vendor look both over and give you a recommendation based on examining them side by side.

Ditto! And I have a knife edge band and find it quite comfortable.
