Help with Blue Fluorescence in Diamond

i've done some reading that diamonds with strong blue fluorescence is not visible in regular light

also that in direct sunlight, even those without fluorescence will look blue due to the sky reflecting off of it

i was just wondering if others can give me some opinion on the ring i have purchased for my future fiance

it is an EGL-USA certified F color, Ideal Plus Cut hearts and arrows, SI1, 0.84ct diamond with strong blue fluorescence...you can see the blue tint in the sunlight pictures, but if this is related to the sky, wouldn't the other diamonds in the halo and band have a little tint as well?

the first group of photos is the ring in sunlight and the others is away from the sun and indoors

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You are indeed seeing the fluorescence of your stone in sunlight, almost certainly not the sky color.

A lot of people find this behavior desirable. It looks like your stone turns a deeper blue than most, as well. It doesn't introduce any cloudiness in the stone, so it looks like a winner, unless it makes you or your girlfriend uncomfortable.

I see the blue in my non-fluorescing diamond every time I'm under a blue sky.

Yes, they do.

But to your other point which I bolded ::: I need a one-eyebrow-raised smilie in response to that. My current stone is med-strong blue, and I sometimes get sky-reflection on a perfectly clear day, and often a mixture of both sky and fluor. In my non-fluorescing stones I see sky reflection frequently, too. But there's a definite color difference in the way the fluorescence is picked up and reflected by the sunlight vs just sky reflection, at least to my eye.

thank you! this is the exact answer i was looking for.

i do feel mine is a little more blue than most as you stated...i wish i knew just how blue beforehand as i personally prefer more white...but it's not my ring, it's my future finace's

i also wanted to know if it showed any cloudiness or milky effect.

You would see the cloudiness or milkiness if there is any. In-person visual inspection is the best vantage point. If you can't see cloudiness in it, then there isn't any. The pale blue tint is probably the SB fluor.

It's a very pretty ring.

I think your are seeing a variety of effects. As others have said, I think some of what you are seeing is the fluor, which I think it very cool! I have one with Med BF and it's so cool! The other has faint and I wish I had more! The other thing you have to factor in when you are in very bright/sunlight situations is that a larger then melee size stone will often darken or turn silvery. I believe the effect is called cancellation. Basically, there is one big light source instead of lots of little ones shining on your stone and your eyes can't process it, so it looks dark. Melee is very small and mainly it's job is going to be "look white" and "sparkle" so it'd be odd to me if they did the same thing and looked the same.

Try taking a picture not in the shade, and not in direct sun, but under a tree, where light is broken up and see what happens.

Here is an example under full sun. See how dark the stone is behind the fire and how it looks darker than the melee stones?

once again everyone. thank you for all your help. seeing as i will propose in a few days, it is obviously too late to exchange the ring now...but i just want some assurance that i have made the right choice for my future fiance's sake. afterall, i only plan on proposing once in my lifetime
