I'm looking at a stone and would like some help in assessing it.

It's GIA, H, SI2 Ex/Ex No flourescence. 2.18C
Measurements are 8.35 X 8.38 X 5.14
Thin to Medium irdle.
Table is 57.3 %
Depth is 61.4%
Crown Angle is 14.7 %
Pavilion Angle is 43.4 %

There is a single inclusion, near the edge, and is very difficult to see, much more so that most SI1's that I've seen.

What should I be paying on something like this?

Thanks!

It looks like you are posting percentages instead of angles. Can you get the angles?

Did you see the stone in bright sunlight? If the inclusion doesn't bother you or can be covered by the setting, than it is a non-issue unless it presents durability problems. You would probably be well-served by taking or sending the diamond to an independent appraiser to have it checked out.

As for what you should be paying...where are you buying? You can check out a pricescope search for similar stones for an idea of price, but remember that these are online prices. A brick and mortar store will most often charge more, but the service can definitely be worth it.

Hope this helps some. :)

oops,

Pavilion Angle is 41.24
Crown Angle is 35.7
It's local chain, Mervis, 3 stores, lifetime upgrade.

Thanks

looks nice.
pricescope shows diamonds like this anywhere from 13,500 to about 15K. From a B&M, you should probably expect more than $15K.

mervis, as in the mervis in the DC/N.Va area? If it is, I think they're a bit overpriced. how much are they charging?

The cut doesn't look so hot to me. It seems like it was cut for weight retention. You can run the numbers through the cut adviser on this site and see what you think.

good call lawmax!
it gets a 1.2 when using the percentages, but only a 3.8 with the angles.

Light Return:Good
Fire:Fair
Scintillation:Fair
Spread or diameter for weight:Very Good

keep looking.

jbarnes-
what's your budget on this purchase, if you don't mind me asking...maybe we can point you in another direction besides mervis (if it's the mervis i'm thinking of in the DC/Va area)

The stone was about 14.5K, I was looking in the 15K range.
