I think we have finally settled on a diamond for my engagement ring. I requested the ideal scope and aset images. I thought the ideal scope looked nice, I didn't see a lot of white. But the aset grey color has me very confused. It does have slight flouresence, which for k color I heard was not bad. It will be set in white gold next with sapphire on each side, hoping that helps with yellow as well. This is first diamond purchase ever. I am not expecting the most amazing diamond ever, given budget and the size of diamond boyfriend wants. But I do want to make sure we are getting best we can for our limited budget. 9059755-Idealscope Image(1).JPG 9059755-Aset Image(1).JPG 9059755-Hearts and Arrows Image(1).JPG 9059755-Image(1).JPG

Hey,

You don't have an ASET that is an arrow viewer (image #2).

This is a deep cut diamond, although the overall depth is 62.3 (which is fine) the steeper crown of 36.5 is not complementary to 40.8. I would really only go as far a 36/40.6 combo at a push with a good idealscope image (a steep crown favours a shallower pavilion). You can see leakage in the idealscope under the table (image #1) due to this combination of angles and washing out of the arrows (although I agree it's not as bad as I thought it would be), it's also not the best taken image which may be concealing some of the leakage.

In the actual photo of the diamond you can clearly tell the light under the table is not as bright as the edge of the diamond which will translate to a darker appearance in the middle of the diamond.

Additionally your K colour is tinted brown which is not a desirable attribute, yellow tinted diamonds generally show less colour and are more expensive. If you have seen the diamond in real life and you are happy with the colour then fair enough, otherwise i strongly advise against.

Overall I'm not in love. What's your budget and how much are you being offered this stone for?

Edited for clarity.

The diamond looks nice. I wouldn't worry too much about that first image. It doesn't look like an ASET image to me. I think that might be the idealscope image and I believe the other two are just from a hearts and arrows viewer. Are you sure you are okay with K color? Have you seen one? Is the stone GIA Excellent cut? What are the measurements of the stone? Slight fluorescence is pretty much a non-issue.

Ok, gm89uk knows a lot more about your stone's other specs than I do. I would not choose a K with a brown undertone. It might look kind of dirty and not white. Be very careful about that in a lower color. I'd personally go a little smaller and get a J.

The diamond is $2,885, $3,700 with setting, 2 sapphires on the side. It has excellent gia cut rating. That's pretty much over our original budget of $3,300.
Regarding color, a friend of mine has a k colored stone she loves, we have seen in person and like. And I believe her's is only very good gia cut.
This is all stressing my boyfriend out. He's like how many images of this diamond do we need. He would be at a mall jewelry store in 2nd if I wasn't doing all this work. Lol I told him if he wants the larger stone, we have to make some sacrifices. And I just want to make sure we make the best sacrifices.

Not all K's are created equally. Normally that price is for around a 1 carat K Si1/Si2. This is discounted almost certainly for the brown tint.

I have not selected diamonds on cut but just the difference colours to demonstrate the difference in K

Yellow tint

Although this isn't GIA it does demonstrate gray tint well:

Please watch this educational video on different tints:

As I believe you're shopping on B2C you already found a vendor that's great value for money.

It's very tight in the budget you've given for the spec:

Maybe ask for the images for this (although strong blue fluor which would do wonders for K colour, may cause some milkiness with the twinning wisps, but this is something B2C can answer).

I searched thru some old post and it seems some folks prefer a brown tint over a yellow in a k. Any of those folks like to chime in? Does anyone have a slight brown tint k color in a white gold setting? Most I saw in search were rose gold.

I wish the brown tint in the video weren't n color graded. I think that makes a huge difference too. Hmm

That video was fascinating, thanks for posting it! I really liked the pink/brown and the grey tinted diamonds!

B2C have an excellent refund policy, it's risk free if you wanted to check it out.

Hi calichelle,

After looking at what seems like a million diamonds online my boyfriend & I purchased from B2C - their return policy made it an easier choice.

For this or any other diamond you're interested in: Ask them for pictures of the actual stone if you have not. Ask them any of your concerns about it. I did and was provided more pictures of my actual diamond. They also addressed questions of concern I had due to fluorescence. My diamond to me is amazing. We are beyond thrilled with the purchase & the price! It gave me very high anxiety for a while but all ended well.

If you do decide to purchase & you're disappointed, you can always return. Good luck!

Thanks. I may ask for some more photos, perhaps from the side so we can see how faint brown. They've been very helpful and responsive.
This was another option we were looking at. But it's only a VG, still faint brown, and seemed small face up dimensions for 1.20.
