***URGENT***

Hi everyone,

I am hoping some of the knowledgeable people here will be able to answer my questions =)

My mom has an antique 10-diamond ring that she inherited from my grandmother and unfortunately, one of the diamonds fell out and was lost. I want to buy her a replacement diamond for Mother's day and am going with my BF today to check out a diamond place he has a connection to. I feel that I can trust the connection in terms of buying the diamond from them, especially after all the knowledge I have gained here, but I would not feel comfortable if I had to leave the ring with them to set the diamond (it's an unusual setting, or at least it looks unusual to me, no prongs, etc..., so I don't think they would be able to set it right then and there). I don't think that my mom has gotten the ring appraised in a long time, but even then, I would not ask her for the appraisal because I do not want to ruin the surprise.

My question is this: who is a good appraiser in NYC and how long would it take to get it appraised?
I figured that I could give my mom the diamond in a temporary holder if I cannot get the ring appraised/diamond set before Sunday.

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks Skippy! I will check them out!

Do you have any pictures of your inheritied ring? It sounds beautiful!!! I would love to see a pic if you don''t mind sharing

Oh, I don't have pics yet, but as soon as it gets its new diamond (and 20 prongs rebuilt!!! it's an OLD ring!) I will do a photo shoot and share some pics...It really is a GORGEOUS ring!

ETA: YAY, this post made me a "Cut Rock"
