Can anyone help me on this stone?

Girdle is 0.9% to 1.7% Faceted

Price is $12.5K. How does it sound/look?
Is it a go or can I do better?
What about comparisons on pricescope?

Everithing about those numbers sounds good - at elast according to wahtever bits of knowledge we usually deploy around here... And there is a virtual brother of your stone listed by Whiteflash (LINK ).

I would not worry much about the H&A symmetry, but this is a top stone and the price indicates H&A.


Other stones? Maybe this F-SI1 (LINK) and 1.9 cts G-VS2

This looks like a beautiful stone. It scores a .8, FIC, EX EX EX, VG on the Cut Advisor. It should have lots of fire -- probably at the expense of the white light return, so it depends on your preferences. (I happen to love fire -- all that color just mesmerizes me

.)

What is the difference between white light and fire? Should I be concerned about losing some of the white light as opposed to the fire? Why can't you have both?

, but the attitude is not ideal for shopping) look at things, but, yeah, there is a choice. You may find a short and well written account on why fire and brilliance (white light return) compete for attention here (LINK).

I was planning on putting this stone into a Tungsten or Titanium tension setting.
Are there any drawbacks to either type of setting? Has anybody ever heard of a stone falling out of a tension setting?
I have a couple of other stones I'm looking at but the numbers are not quite as good as these numbers but the price is comparable with the numbers. Are I better off going with this stone and the cost or getting a lesser stone and saving some money. the difference is about $1K between this stone and
one that has numbers not quite as good.

As far as the settings, as long as you use somebody that has had a lot of experience doing tension settings and a good reputation, you shouldn't have any problem. if they are done right, there shouldn't be any worry about the stone falling out.

As far as if a better cut stone is worht an extra $1k, only you can decide that. I guess it partially depends on how much better cut the more expensive stone is. Personally, I'd rather spend the extra $1k and know I'll have something I'll be happy with for a long time, than waste $11,500 on something that I'm not happy with. $11,500 is a lot of money to spend on something you're not totally happy with. Keep in mind that you're asking this question on a forum where cut is king, so the response may be a little biased. It's a general consesus here that cut is not one of the four C's you should compromise on, but othere have differing opinions. As always, take with a grain of salt. Good luck in whichever way you choose to go.

At least according to the Holloway Cut Advisor, it is definitely okay. The theory is that the larger crown angle of 35.8 is complemented by the smaller pavilion angle of 40.5, which is why the stone got such a great score when plugged into the HCA.

The average crown angle of 35.8 and average pavilion angle of 40.5 fall within the AGS0 range. The range for pavilion angle is 40.15-41.20 degrees and the range for crown angle is 33.7-35.8 degrees. The average crown angle is right on the edge of the AGS0 range, so some people might argue than it's possible some of the crown angles that averaged out to 35.8 might actually be above 35.8, dropping it out of the AGS0 range. Personally, I think that's nit-picking a little. AGS lists average angles on their grading reports, and it is these angles that determine the cut grade. so I say, yes, according to AGS's standards, the crown and pavilion angles fall within the AGS0 range.

Help..I checked this stone on the AGA cut advisor and it's coming back that it's not even a 1A cut. It's coming back as a 2A. Should I be concerned that's it's not a 1A with the price tag of $12K? The 35.8 crown and Pavilion of 40.5 concerns me. I thought for that kind of money I would be getting a much better review on the AGA than what it did. Can someone help me with a better stone than this in that price range? $11K-$13.5K. Need this stone within the next week.

SFANTA, I don't know much about tungsten settings, but I can chime in with a few kernels on titanium tension settings.




Make sure you don't have any feathers near the girdle on this stone....that could spell trouble. You may want to consider dropping to a F/G, VS2 to help minimize the inclusions that can cause structural problems in a tension set.

I'll second Alj's suggestion. I would pay a great deal of attention to the location and nature of the inclusions: no feathers near the edge. A crystal (less stress) would be adequate, in this case.

As for the cut, this is a very well cut stone... My preference is for stones with crown angles in the 34.2-34.8' range coupled with a 40.7-40.9' pavilion. In your case we have a steeper crown with a shallower pavilion... The effect should be very pretty, with a lot of colors. So the make of this stone is definitely ok for me, but I'd pay attention to the inclusions. I would consider going with a G/VS for the peace of my mind.
