My girlfriend lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil where diamonds aren't common and I'm afraid if i get a big one she might get mugged or something. I am looking to buy a smaller stone .6-.7 carots and wanted some advice. Here is one of the stones I'm looking at, any thoughts or other suggestions? Thanks.

Looks like a great stone, could be an excellent choice.

Thanks for the quick feedback, helps to have some assurance when buying such an expensive and important item.

Very pretty and great color/clarity combination!

Very nice and the perfect color/clarity in my opinion!

And that is not a *small* diamond

It is a lovely size!

I agree! I started out with a .5 and I thought it was HUGE. While it''s not huge to me anymore, it still certainly isn''t small.

i guess i see a lot of people''s stones on here and .6 feels small, hard to know exactly what to spend/buy

.60 is a great size, not too small at all! Especially with that superb cut, it will be a fireball on her finger!

PS does skew sizes to seem smaller than they are. .6 is pretty decently large. My first wedding set (subsequently broken and replaced) was a .25 carat *total weight*- the center stone was probably a .15ish or something. Tiny. And I wore it for years happily and wouldn''t have replaced it if I''d had the choice.

If you look at ring fingers during the day, you''ll see that the average size is way under a carat and under a half carat too generally, depending on where you live anyway. At least that''s what I see here, near Seattle. I''d guess a third of a carat was average size. I tend to see a few dozen people during the day at work, and of those maybe one or two have a diamond around a carat.

I''m still debating whether I go with 14k White Gold, 18k White Gold w/platinum head or Platinum, any thoughts? Probably going with the 6 prong tiffany style on whiteflash

gorgeous, and definitely not small:-)

if it fits in your budget I''d get the ring set in platinum, but that''s just my preference...if not, white gold is gorgeous! My rings are white gold, but it''s been about 10 months for my e-ring and I think it''s starting to "butter" and I need to get it rhodium plated.

I''m a bit worried b/c in Brazil everyone does regular gold (without diamonds), i hate the look of diamonds with yellow gold, but i''m afraid my girl will not like the white gold/platinum, any thoughts? especially the ladies out there if they''d be okay with a white metal if they were expecting gold, thanks

I prefer white gold, but yellow is lovely. If you look on the BGD and whiteflash sites you can see that tiffany setting in yellow gold.

If you go with yellow gold, I would get the platinum head.

Can you ask your gf what colour she''d prefer? If you want to keep it a surprise you wouldn''t have to ruin it.

Thats what I would do.

Thanks for the advice, I ended up asking her and after our conversation decided to go platinum, she wanted yellow gold b/c all brazilians use it and she didn''t want the ring to look like any old ring (in portuguese there are two words, one for any old ring and another for an engagement ring), they don''t do diamonds there, so i think the diamond will do the trick, going with this diamond

with this platinum band

It''s going to be stunning! You made really great choices and I ditto that it is not small!

Glad you asked her. I didn''t think someone expecting yellow gold would be happy with a white metal. At one point in my life, I would have assumed white gold or platinum to be silver and not valuable. also, I do not think .70 is small. I agree that being on PS makes you think it is small, but it isn''t. I was at a wedding in NYC this weekend, where all the huge diamonds are supposed to be--and it was a very fancy wedding, too, Central Park Boathouse, limousine like busses for all the guest, all the stops pulled out. Looking around the room, not many people had even a carat e-ring. the bride had a 1.5 or so oval in a halo, and there were a couple of others around that size, but I was a table with a doctor, married to a dr, who had a .15 or so (in a very pretty setting) and looking around the room, most there had in the vicinity of .33-.70, the older ladies being the ones with the smaller ones, but even the ones in their 20''s mostly not having as much as a carat.

I''m feeling good about the purchase, can''t wait to get it and be able to give it to her.

Did you ask your girlfriend about diamond size? I have two female cousins who live in Sao Paulo and although they are both fairly well off, neither would wear a diamond more than about .4 or so. Just too dangerous. I don't want to derail you, but it's something to think about.

thanks for the comment, I didn''t ask about a specific size, but I plan on getting a wedding band as well, worst case she only wears the wedding band normally, I felt like .6 wasn''t crazy big, here''s to hoping

Your diamond is going to be a beauty, congratulations!
