Good afternoon, I am another PS "newbie", and am thrilled to have found this site. I was wondering whether some of you wonderful experts can help me with a 15th anniversary upgrade choice. I am looking for a RB, around 1.25 (I currently have .50), and am fortunate to be living in the Houston area and able to visit Whiteflash in person. In addition to the diamond (which I am hoping to keep under $9k), I''m going to have to get a new setting and wb, as I am making the change to platinum. I have chosen the following to view as a start, and am wondering what your opinions are of these:

I''m also wondering whether I dare consider this one, as it it a 1.54, and within my price range, but is a J:

What do you think? Should I go bigger

Thank you for your help!

I would go down in clarity to get as big as possible.

To know if you should consider a J, I would try to see one in person. They are not for everyone. If you were to consider one, I would look for a diamond that also has an ideal or excellent cut.

I will leave the cut info to others more knowledgable about rounds.

Hi!

Lucky you, to be able to actually go to WF!

The stones you picked out look good (forgot to look at the J). I agree w/Jazmine, you can go down in clarity, and still get a stunning stone. Also, you may find color doesn''t bother you, and be able to go even bigger.

What I would suggest is, calling to set up an appt., tell them your budget, that you are not sure what your color tolerance is, and ask to see several, in diff. sizes and colors. Then, let your eyes be the judge.

Thanks for your suggestions Jazmine and Ellen. I actually have an appointment to go there tomorrow, and thought I''d see if anyone had any words of wisdom that I could chew on tonight before my visit. I am tempted to go with the bigger stone (it scored 1.3 using the cut advisor), but it seems a bit warmer compared to the others. But hey, when going up from a .50, H, and probably poorly cut (what can i say, we were 24 and on a very tight budget at the time), the color is probably going to be secondary to the size difference and cut!

Hi, Connie! Lucky you to be able to go to WF and look! When I was working on my own anniversary upgrade recently, I went to a local jeweler who actually let me step outside with a mirror and compare diamond color. I personally could see some color in a J, and while you can get gorgeous stones in J, I decided I would stay at H VS for my own ring. So naturally, I like the three you posted first! I would consider an I color if one was available, though.

otta, I''d ask that you NOT be told what you''re looking at. You may be surprised what you can''t see, and actually like.

Thanks Ellen! That is a really good suggestion. After all, I''m the one who will be looking at it, so I should be the one who''s in love with it!

I am also green with envy!! Since you are going to be there and able to use your own eyes, why don't you ask them to show you

It wouldn't hurt to look at it since you are already going to be there - the pic on the website is magnified 40x, so I would look with just my eyes to check it out for eye cleanliness and sparkle!
