Hi! I’m trying to help a friend buy a pair of lab diamond studs for his wife, and I would love some recommendations!

I helped him pick a lab engagement ring from Brian Gavin, but it looks like BG and Whiteflash don’t have any smaller ideal cut lab stones in stock.

I checked Blue Nile, and the prices seem a little high. I checked IDJ’s app, and the prices for .5 ct stones seem great! But I don’t know how to pick the best cut.

Does anyone have a 1 ctw pair they would recommend from a reputable place like IDJ, and a 1.5 ctw pair for comparison? Since it’s lab diamonds I think everything is basically really high color and clarity, so as between a D or F etc it doesn’t really matter, I think he just wants a good price and good setting. I don’t know what metal she likes but I thought about recommending platinum due to potential ear sensitivity

Thank you in advance!!

These are 1.28 ctw stones and setting from Ritani. I really like the stones and the look of the setting but one is set pretty crooked. The pair of stones were under $600 they are D VS1 or 2 I can’t remember. I used this chart to pick them. I tried to make sure the pair matched at far as angles so one wasn’t very fiery and the other very bright. And yes it’s a screenshot from PS lol. I picked the individual stones not their preselected pairs. Overall I love Ritani for stones; their settings look nice but you get what you pay for. Hope this helps!

I purchased a lab pair from @Rhino at Distinctive Gem in January and couldn’t be happier. He can provide ASET images and all the right stats. The settings are perfect. It’s a little pricier than Ritani, but the quality is impeccable.

Good luck!

Thank you both very much!!

What do you guys think about these? I’m hoping they are close enough to ideal cut? Appreciate any input!!

First, I’m nowhere and expert like @DejaWiz and the other experts here, but I think your specs on the first are a little off. Maybe these both are considered a little steep and deep?

My understanding is that crown and pavilion angles of 34-35 and 40.6-40.9 are ideal. Although the second falls within these parameters, I think you don’t want to be at the extremes on both angles.

I’m sure you’ll have some experts chiming in soon.

Ok thank you! I’ve been looking but having trouble finding stones where everything falls within those parameters, even when they are labeled ideal cut ugh.

I saw two .5’ish Ct stones at Distinctive Gem that looked really nice, but I think the price will be too high. :(

If anyone has time to recommend a couple pairs in the 1-1.5 ctw range I would definitely appreciate it!

Ignore the marketing “ideal” label. You can determine that for yourself.

For earrings, lots of ppl don’t sweat the details too much, especially if they’re on a budget. You don’t get to enjoy them (since you can’t see them), and hair/distance often obscure other people’s full enjoyment of their “idealness.”

Ok - I think these fit the parameters?

I’m not great at things like pavilion twist or digging & painting or striations or graining or tinges. (So much stuff, right?)

But they don’t seem to have blue nuance.

I really like the 0.72. I don’t know why I’m on the fence about the 0.70, but like I said, I’m not an expert. Maybe it’s a solid stone. Hopefully, someone else will chime in. :)
