Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your help on the hunt!!!

Viewed 2 diamonds at James Allen today:

1.73 G VVS2 - https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2569843

1.71 F VS1 - https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...f-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2575447

The G scores a 1.7 on Halloway & the F scores 1.4. They were both very nice in person & very hard to tell apart. There is a $2,500 price difference between them (F more). I put the idealscope images below. Which one would you pick?

1.71 F.jpg 1.71 F

Greatly appreciate your feedback - you are all so helpful!

The G catches my eyes more than the F.
I think it's brighter and the optical symmetry is better.
Once again, an example that a lower HCA doesn't mean better when both are < 2.0.

Thanks Stephan, I appreciate your reply. Is that because of the price, idealscope images or ?

Agree on the G and use the "extra" $2500 toward your honeymoon. :saint:

You can ask if clouds are affecting transparency, but on a VVS stone, I would highly doubt it.

I couldn't notice it looking cloudy. I didn't actually know the report said that until after I got home and I thought shoot!! I didn't ask the gemologist about that.

Optical symmetry and brightness. The F has something darker and less symmetric.
Did you look at the stones from the side in the video?
The G looks more lively.

Sorry Stephan, I didn't see your full reply at first

Based on the images, the price difference & that visually you couldn't see a difference I would choose the G

Thanks all, very much appreciate all of you!!

Price is obviously a factor but $2.5k in a lifetime isn't that much of a difference. Would you all still pick the G at the same price point?

I would.

Thank you so much ringo865. Great to hear all your opinions.

I cant choose based only on those IS images DS
price wise the G VVS2 should be less than the F VS1 - it surprised me - but Rap supports it. But why such high clarity? Why not drop to VS2 or even SI1?

Thanks for your reply Garry. Would have been happy to go down to a VS1 or a good VS2 to save money but I couldn't find suitable stock available that also rated under a 2 on Holloway. The VS1's that were available on JA were the same price so I got this one in. I did have a 1.8 VS2 in to see but it appeared a bit cloudy. As for the SI1's have seen a few and could always clearly see the inclusions.

Rap supports the $2,500 difference in price?

P.S. I just noticed that you are the developer of the Idealscope & Holloway. Thank you so much, they are very helpful tools in narrowing down the diamond search!
