HI Everyone,

I am new here. I recently bought a diamond ring that is 1.75cts, excellent cut, H color, VS2 clarity(EGL international certified, I know, I know, don't laugh, I learn my lesion now). When I receive it, I really liked it, I thought the ring is stunning. Then I took it to an independent appraiser, it turn out the color is really A J. I start to notice the color, and it seems bother me more and more.

I talked to my jeweler, She offered me another Stone that is also EGL ceritfied(but European office)1.7cts, SI1 clarity, very good cut, F color.

My question are,

1, Which diamond is better to buy?
A: 1.75cts, excellent cut, J color, VS2 clarity(I have already verified with an appraiser)
B: 1.7cts, SI1 clarity, very good cut, F color (how is EGL European? I have no idea what it will really be)

2, If the B is better than A. How is EGL European? Does it worth to try(I mean I need to paid at least $100 for the shipping and an appraiser to verify the 4cs )

3, How much is an reasonable price for A. If it is not worth the money, I may have the chance to return it.

I have 1.5days to return the ring, Any advice is appreciated.

BTW, How much it worth, Including the ring (18K LUCIDA style mounting)

It''s not going to disappear, unfortunately. If it''s bothering you now and you are able to do something about it, I''d say take the opportunity while you have it!

it sounds like you only noticed the color after it was appraised as a J color?

also are these cut grades given by EGL?

Yes, the cut grade is providing by EGL. But the appraiser said that very thing is accurate, but the color.

yes, I only notice the color after it is appraised as J.

Does A J color a good to buy?

Unfortunately it does happen that when something is pointed out to you, you see it more and more until it's all you can see.

I just bought a (GIA) J and I know I'll be very happy with it. I know and accept that it's tinted, and it doesn't bother me - it's not something I'm going to just try to live with even if I'd much prefer a higher colour... that's very rarely a successful venture, I'm afraid.

J colors can be a good buy because of the value, but it''s all a matter of personal preference.

the SI stone might have visible inclusions that may bother you, did you see it in person?

Have you seen the other F color? It might not look any different to your eye, in which case why bother switching?

Thanks for your advice.

I saw the certificate, and it has the inclusion picture on it, I think the inclusion will not be seen to the naked eyes. And my jeweler said it is very eye clean. And I run the numbers on the HCA, it shows the cut is very good. The only thing that I concerned is the color Which is the only factor to motivate me to switch.

Did it score less than 2? The HCA is a rejection tool -- over 2 means reject, under 2 means worth consideration. If you care

You do not need to let the tool affect your decision since you are able to actually see the diamond. I just want to clarify its use.

I run HCA for both stones. I got the scores. The 1.75tc J color got 1.3. The 1.7tcs F color got 2.4.

Based on that alone the J probably is better cut. But you can call it in and see if the color difference warrants ther price difference, and whether you can see any difference in cut quality.

I paid it for $7000 including the ring(18k LUCIDA)

Since the second stone is also an EGL stone have you considered that its probably not really an F but could be a G or H? Also, since its
not cut as well as the J it may be graded a better color but not look as good as the J.
