I need some help valueing this diamond :

http://www.igiworldwide.com/verify.php?r=162588681

It's hard to find price lists for coloured diamonds the best I could find was this http://www.ajediam.com/fancy_color_diamond_prices_1-00_to_1-49_carat.html. Not so sure if these are accurate since the price for 1ct eye clear fancy yellow looks more like a retail price and not a wholesale price because from what I've heard and seen that should be well below 10k.

The diamond in question is fancy deep orange which I think is three colour grades above (light, fancy, fancy intense, vivid, deep?) fancy orange. So if someone could add their 2 cents I'd appreciate it! :)

Color diamonds are hard to value and even if you go to a number of appraisers you will get widely varying quotes.

Hello. Fancy deep orange Diamonds (straight orange of any tone strength) are extremely rare, and for a Diamond with a solid orange to be valued as such (with no modifiers), it should or must be graded as such by GIA.

Any other Lab report will not bring in the value.
Once modifiers are involved the value changes drastically and significantly.

They (orange Diamonds) are a truly rare breed. To value a colored Diamond it must be seen live in as many lighting scenarios as possible. Only then are they comparable, pictures only tell a limited story usually.

In addition to what's already been said- the diamond has a "poor" grade for cut- something I don't think I've ever seen before  , and a clarity grade of I 2-so it may have some major structural issues, too.

That's probably because GIA doesn't grade cut on colored stones. That said, color is king, and cuts can be as wonky as they need to be to keep light in the stone and returning color to the viewer. I have seen colored stones that would make white diamond buyers hurl, but that's colored diamonds for you.

An I1-I2 is not uncommon in colored diamonds - that part wouldn't bother me.

I disagree. Although I've seen a fair number of I1s from reputable dealers, I rarely see an I2. So, no- I wouldn't say they are common at all. And I still think there could easily be durability issues with an I2 and it will effect the value.

Just looking at the big name dealers, I see Leibish has 3, Reddiam has 5. Of course, a lot of stones that would grade I1 or lower get the color only reports and get listed as (I1) so it's impossible to know what a stone would be graded as beyond "not so good." I bet a lot of colored stones out there would get low clarity grades.

None of these stones are orange, so it's also impossible to say what it does to the price, although durability risks are really not important since a lot of these stones are never set.

As Yoram mentioned, if a diamond is GIA graded orange of almost any shade, with no modifier, it's as rare- and valuable- as a blue or green.
There are exceptions- such as a butt ugly stone- which is hard to sell at stratospheric price.
Also important to keep in mind in terms of color, and value- Any modifiers will decimate the price. Brownish- Orange are relatively common and trade at a tiny fraction of a pure orange.

In terms of clarity and cut: A lot of clarity sins which would kill a colorless stone are not deal breakers on these super rare colors. A pure Orange GIA graded I2 might still bring a huge price
In terms of cut, Fancy colored diamonds are a nice laboratory to see what GIA poor cut ratings look like.
I've seen some amazing stones that were fair in Pol/Sym based on GIA grading. In terms of value, again, if it was pure orange, it can still bring huge bucks with F/F

About the report: IGI has never been seen as far off as EGL International. I have seen cutters using it on moderately priced stones- and in my experience the reports have been consistent with grading close to, or equal to GIA.

In the case of a stone of such a deep color, I am not surprised that IGI gave a different grade than GIA.
If a dealer presented me with a diamond of such a grade, I assume that the diamond was graded at some point, by GIA- who hypothetically, gave it a less desirable color.

IN the event it was somehow submitted to IGI outside the trade, whoever owns it should immediately send it to GIA.
A GIA graded Fancy Deep Orange could bring some serious buck. Even as an I2 it would be worth plenty more with a GIA report of the same grade.

Thanks for all the replies. Like some of you have pointed out what worries me most is that there may be a shade of brown in there which would reduce the value drastically so I'm going to pass on that stone.

TO make it even more challenging: The wholesale database of diamonds has a lot of stones identified as "Fancy Orange"- yet when you click through and check the GIA reports every single one has a modifier. Which is frustrating because there's a filter that's supposed to remove any stones with modifiers.
Even Yellow as a modified decimates the price of an orange diamond.
I have seen a few pure Fancy Orange diamonds in real life.....truly something to behold....
