It has an overall hazy appearance, would be my guess. Like it looks slightly dirty even when clean. Something widespread enough to affect the performance but it's not localized to one or two small clouds.

Hazy stone. Video proofs it.

I second this, the stone most likely is milky/hazy and doesn't have the liveliness that diamonds are well-known for. The clarity plot looks great on paper, though, especially for an SI12.

What I'm confused by is why that stone, if it's as hazy as I think it is, is Si2 rather than I1?? I thought if visual performance was affected to that degree that would be an I1?

Clarity is based on clouds not shown. It's listed on the GIA report under the comments section and immediately raises red flags.

edit: sorry just realized that the OP mentioned the comment in her initial post.

From GIA:

Evaluating diamond clarity involves determining the number, size, relief, nature, and position of these characteristics, as well as how these affect the overall appearance of the stone. While no diamond is perfectly pure, the closer it comes, the higher its value

Based on the upon I can only assume that GIA determined that the impact of the clouds on the stones performance didn't warrant a lower clarity grade? Perhaps the lighting in the video exaggerates the overall hazy appearance to some degree? Maybe it's one of those borderline clarity grades, and if submitted again may actually receive the lower designation?

Has anyone seen a stone like this in person? Was the haziness noticeable? I agree-funny that it wasn't graded an I1 instead...
