I had a heck of a time shopping for a dress to wear to an upcoming wedding, which will be held at a ritzy locale near the beach (not black tie though). I finally settled on the light gold dress below but would like to get some opinions:

1. Is this OK to wear to a wedding? Since white is a no-no, I'm paranoid that the color is too bridal (you can get a better view by zooming in at the link below)

2. How would you accessorize this dress? I have nude/light gold heels, which I like, but overall it seems somewhat blah. Some sort of clutch? A wrap sort of jacket thing? What color goes with gold?

Thanks, all! Fashion just isn't in my DNA but I know that many of you have an amazing sense of style.

I don't think it's too bridal to wear to a wedding. I wonder if gold shoes would be too much gold or may look odd if they don't quite match. You could go with basic black or red or purple for something more bold

i love the dress, but the only problem is it might appear white in pictures when the flash is on, which you may want to avoid. perhaps you can try taking some pictures to make sure it will not look too white in pictures.

as for accessories, i would keep it simple. nude or black heels with some diamond studs would look understated and classy.

good luck!

Based on this pic, I think it's too white. I'd go for something more colorful.

I don't think it's too bridal, but I was a pretty laid back bride about those things. As long as it wasn't white or cream and long, I was okay with it. I think that if you accessorize it with a few chunky jewelry pieces with color that are decidedly NOT bridal.

Here are some suggestions:

I love these earrings! http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/alexis-bittar-miss-havisham-encrusted-liquid-link-earrings-nordstrom-exclusive/3208074?origin=category

WITH

Bangle: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/alexis-bittar-miss-havisham-encrusted-orbital-cuff-nordstrom-exclusive/3162690?origin=keywordsearch&resultback=631

I love the entire collection seen here honestly: http://shop.nordstrom.com/sr?keyword=Miss+Havisham&origin=keywordsearch Maybe a necklace too.

These are less expensive and beautiful: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/nordstrom-keep-rockin-double-stone-drop-earrings/3212053?origin=category with: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/stein-blye-short-torsade-necklace-nordstrom-exclusive/3213763?origin=category and/or http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/nordstrom-keep-rockin-multi-stone-toggle-bracelet/3212055?origin=category

I LOVE Anna Beck's yellow and rose gold pieces and they'd be lovely as well, but they are really pricey in my opinion... still her collection gorgeous: http://shop.nordstrom.com/sr?keyword=anna+beck&origin=keywordsearch

As for shoes I'd either do something nude that just disappears or a bold metallic that screams NOT THE BRIDE...

These are expensive, but killer: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vera-wang-lavender-elroy-embellished-faux-snakeskin-sandal/3170792?origin=category

For shoes I would do nude-- and for jewelry I would go chunky and bold Luke a bright coral bead necklace or turquoise.

I was in a wedding this weekend and a guest was wearing something very similar... She stuck out like a sore thumb because it was just too close to white. Personally, I'd go for something with a little more color.

Many thanks for the opinions! I need to run to work and will take more time to respond later but, in case it helps, here is a real life photo of the dress in question. The blue dress next to it is my backup plan but I tried both on for friends and they all chose the gold one! Go figure.

Now that I saw your live shot of it, it's ok I think. If it was based solely on the website's image I'd have said no.

yeah, I agree. it looks more 'gold' in the picture. I think it's totally appropriate for a wedding!

Great dress! Love the color in the live shot. It's obviously a matter of personal taste, but FYC I'd pair with:
-- strappy shoes suitable for dancing, probably a soft/neutral gold;
-- statement necklace (because that neckline's just begging for one!) with pop of color;
-- clutch purse which brings out color/stones in aforementioned statement necklace;
-- simple hair, pulled back or up depending on your face shape, to let the necklace make its statement

Wrists free, small earrings if you have pierced holes, beautiful makeup. Done. :))

Ditto all of this. And I agree with your friends that don't like the blue.

I think it's gorgeous. I was a bit worried after seeing the 1st photo in case it was too pale but it looks perfect in your pic.

I like it! I would pair it with an aubergine or wine color.

Awww, you are all SO NICE to offer your feedback! Thanks for reassuring me that the dress will be OK, because I'd hate to go shopping again and try on another 100 dresses that look heinous.

Love the aubergine suggestion, I would never have thought of that. I'll try to find some jewelry or a clutch with that color to break up all the gold. I'm not sure I can pull off the chunky/statement jewelry look since I'm pretty petite, but I'll shop around because it sounds like a good excuse to shop for jewelry :Up_to_something:

And Gypsy, I wish I could hire you to be my personal shopper! You have such a great eye and picked out so many combinations that would have never occurred to me. A huge thanks for taking the time to find all those links. The shoes I got are very similar to a pair you posted (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/michael-michael-kors-zoe-slingback-sandal/3148375?origin=category) but I wish I had found those ones instead!

Thank you Candy! You made my day.

Those are cute shoes, and you can't go wrong with anything similar to them. I think you are set for shoes! What are you going to do for jewelry now?

For jewelry, I'll start with these, which I wear pretty much every day:

ACAstudsSPband.jpg

Then I might shop for a nice, bold necklace with some color since rummaging through my jewelry box didn't turn up anything exciting. Shopping for jewelry is so much better than shopping for dresses!

HI:

I would wear bright shoes--strappy or high heel sling. Color on wrists since you already plan to wear diamond earrings.

Dress is lovely.

cheers--Sharon
