Ok, so I came across uniondiamond.com and their good reviews as well as bad. They have some ridiculously cheap diamonds and I am wondering what is wrong with them. I am no expert and I am curious if they are worth considering? There are no pics, only really old EGL certs (I know, probably red flag #1). Can someone please shed some light (heheh diamond pun?) on these stones for me?

Re: Help! Something wrong with these stones from Union Diamo

Ashleemarie,

While forum rules prohibit me from commenting specifically about another vendor's product, I can point you in the right direction as far as your questions go.

This is a great article about diamond pricing - a few years old so I am certain the percentages have changed, but the information is still valid:

Additionally, I would point you to some recent information regarding EGL labs as discussed on this forum recently:

Best wishes in your search!

I would call Tony (he's fantastic) directly at Union Diamond and have him pick a diamond for you or at least assist. His database is one that many jewelers work off of. I would stay far, far, far away from EGL diamonds UNLESS (and this is a big unless) you have seen the diamond in person (and really seen it, take it outside with security guard, go sit in your car with security guard, walk around in all light sources etc. etc. inspect it heavily) and are happy with it.

I called him directly, gave him the budget, he told me 'give him 2-3 days' he spoke with his sources and he had 4 diamonds in budget, all GIA. If you're not color sensitive, give him the options for 'face up white' and 'eye clean' and he'll do a great job.
