This is my first post. I've been reading and trying to learn as much as I can. I feel like the more I learn, the more difficult this decision gets, though.
My goal is simple, or so I thought: maximize the size of the Pear shaped center stone while maintaining very strong visual appeal to the untrained or novice eye. My budget for the aforementioned center stone is around $10,000 (+/- $500 or so).
To this point, I have been trying to find a 1.75+ carat, H or better, SI2 or better, ~1.55 l/w ratio (we like wider diamonds), low florescence (I'm told?), nicely proportioned and well cut. Those last two characteristics (proportion and cut) are the ones I'm struggling with most.
I read on Diamonds.Pro that a well cut diamond is very important when it comes to Pear shaped stones but that the GIA doesn't grade the cut.
Do either of the following look like good choices?
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/pear-shaped/1.87-carat-h-color-si2-clarity-sku-231392
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/pear-cut-loose-diamond-3231351.htm
Ultimately the center stone will go in a to be determined platinum halo setting with diamonds going down ~3/4 the sides of the band.
If not, any suggestions?
Any and all knowledgeable/experienced help would be much appreciated!
