Hello Fellow PS''ers! I''m in dire need of advice. I''m getting married in January 2010 and plan to reset my ring sometime next year. Here''s where the dilemma comes in...should I buy a wedding band that matches my current setting? Or should I buy a band that will match the setting I''ll (hopefully) have by next year?

Any thoughts/ideas would be so much appreciated. Thanks!

Does the wedding band ever need to "match"??!! Plenty of ladies on here have "nonmatchy" or "unmatchy" sets that they love! It''s kind of like Stacey and Clinton say on "What Not To Wear"...it doesn''t need to "match" it just needs to "go"...and as long as it sparkles, I think it "goes"!!!

Moral of the story: Pick a wedding band you love...not just because it matches your e-ring!

Well said. I agree.

But if it really HAS to match I''d say get one to match your eventual setting. Especially if you''ll have that setting in the near future. IMO the wedding band is more symbolic than the engagment ring and I know once I get a wedding band I won''t want to change it for a very long time.

Gosh so well put! I love that show! I have a Princess channel set ER so I think the obvious choice would be a princess channel set wedding band. However, my plan is to reset into a halo - which would mean I''d want a micropave band to match? Thing is, I don''t think the micropave band would look good with my Princess channel set ER and I''m not sure how long it will take for me to re-set.

Do you have pictures or your current setting and a picture simmilar to your reset?

I think a nice thin micropave band is extremly versitile and would go well with your current setting in a non-matchy way.

Have you tried any on?

I have some pictures at home that I can post. I haven''t tried any micropave bands with my current ER - but that''s a good idea. Stay tuned for pics...

I think micropave bands are one of the most versatile out there! I know cocolaw has an awesome nonmatchy set and when someone else asked her for help, her best advice was to just go and try stuff on! The jewelry store will also probably let you try on the bands with a halo they have in stock so you can see how it would look with both your current and your future settings.

Best of luck finding the perfect one!

Well this is a subject that is near and dear to my heart! I had the same dilema last year when I bought my band. I hadn''t spent enough time on pricescope at that time to think it through a little more, so I wound up going with the "matching" band for my solitaire ring even though I knew I would want to change my set in the future. The ONLY band that looked decent with my ring is the curved pave band that was made to accompany it. I seriously tried everything in my area on. What I should have done is pick a band that I love all by itself and try on bands in bigger stores. (I live in a tiny area with limited selection). I think the only limitation you should have on the band you pick is if it will go with the general style of ring that you plan to reset your ering to. For instance, if you want a milgrain halo with anitque accents, I wouldn''t go for the chanel set princess band kwim? Other than that, pick something that you will want to wear when you are 50 because the wedding band is really special in my opinion. Now when I get my eventual reset, my now wedding band will look rediculous and I''ll have to make a choice as to what to do. I just wish I had this thought back when I was choosing my band! I hope this helps. Good luck and congrats on your engagement!

here''s my current ER...I''m actually having a jeweler shave down the top and bottom so a wedding band can sit flush to the ring instead of having space in between the two.

here''s a setting similar to what i want in the future...i pulled this picture off of a site of a jeweler in cape cod...i live in md...anyone know of an online vendor with a similar setting???

My suggestion would be to buy a simple plain band, which would "match" any setting. Then you can always get a diamond band later and use your plain band when you don''t want to worry about the diamond band!

here''s another pic of my ER, hopefully it appears larger than the first pic i posted...

OK I change my answer. lol That is an excellent idea. You would probably wear that plain band more than you realize!

BTW, lovely setting. Leon mege has some similar designs or at least a similar style. http://www.artofplatinum.com/

one more time...

How bout a round channel set eternity band (with thin sides) and no milgrain. Then when you get your new ring
have it milgrained to match. I would get the smallest (thinest) channel set ring you could find.

I say go with a plain simple band, it goes with everything, I wish I had done that when I got married, its easy to size, it matches everything and it nice to wear when doing yucky stuff around the house

I would get married with a lovely simple gold band, or perhaps something with some engraving or scattered diamonds if you want. There are *always* occassions when you need a band like that -- travelling, around the house, when you have kids or are being active. That way you never need to change your true real wedding band, and you can just get bands to match your set when you change it over the years. You may plan for this new setting to be forever, but who knows?

Another vote for the plain, thin band.

I got married with two bands, a plain 3mm one, and a fancy vintage 5mm one. Actually, neither matches my engagement ring, but the plain one is always around. I can wear it to garden, travel, camp, you name it. I sometimes wish I''d gotten a different metal so it did match my engagement ring, but I love having a plain band for everyday wear.

A plain thin band is a great idea. It can work on its own for times when you don''t want to wear your E-ring (like the other ladies have already mentioned) AND it can work well as a stacker with your E-ring and whatever other bands you decide to buy!

Ditto!!! I was so surprised to discover that my plain band is my favorite to wear of all my rings! I have both a 3mm plain platinum band and a diamond eternity band for my wedding bands, and I wear both together with my ering. I love the look of all 3 rings together. You could start with the plain band, and then get the matching band later down the road. It is so nice to have a plain band that you can bang up without worry (and getting the plain band may help to save some money to put toward your reset! :)

Thank you all for your thoughtful suggestions - I have a sterling silver plain band ring that I tried on with my ER - just to get a feel of what a plain band would look like and I''m surprised at how much I like the look. So...I''ll keep my eye out for plain bands. I knew my fellow PS''ers would come to my rescue!!!
