Hi,

I am new to this forum and would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

I got engaged a little less than a year ago and recently found out that my center stone is lose. Turn out, the place that my fiance got the ring is not very reputable and they are not going to do anything to fix it. What's done is done but I'm trying to see what I can do now.

I have a 1 ct. princess cut, it was set in a solitaire setting with small diamonds on the band. I've called up jewelers and I've been getting mix opinions. Some say that if it's already lose within the year, I should just get a new setting and reset it the right now. Others suggest that i can just tighten the prongs. It has been very stressful trying figure out what to do.

I am budget conscious because we have a wedding coming up but at the same time, I want to fix it right and not have to deal with the same problem a few years from now. I do like the current setting but I wouldn't mind getting a halo either. From what I've seen, looks like majority of the settings are made for a round cut, i haven't found many settings that would fit a princess cut.

So to sum it up, here are my issues:
1. fix or reset
2. if fix, will I have future problems with it?
3. If reset, what setting can I get? Where can I go to make sure they are accountable unlike the place my FH went?

I'm very new with this and I am just very confused on what to do as a next step. Please help!

I dont think whether it needs to be replaced are not should be based on the time it has taken for the stone to become loose.
It may have never been set right in the first place (in which case you should have it reset by a reputable jeweler). Or, there
could be something wrong with the prongs/setting (to big/to small/damaged) in which case you might be able to get it fixed or
may need a total reset.

You need to find out exacty why the stone is loose. Dont let someone up-sell you a new setting if you dont need it.
