Help! Regarding Apprasing diamonds

Hi all,

I am sure some of you might know about my bracelet episode..... I hope to seek help from experts here....

What I need to know...is how long does it take an appraiser to appraise a bracelet? Can you really tell if a diamond is fake or imitation from your naked eyes?

Does anyone know any good appraiser to recommend in London? or LA?

Appreciate a lot of help here.... I am feeling bad for my FI....

Most appraisers offering a while-you-wait type service are done in less than an hour but it really depends on how much information you require (and are willing to pay for). A full cut grading on every stone would be pretty time consuming. Many appraisers are fairly busy and there may be a delay due to scheduling while you effectively wait in line behind other customers and it may involve setting appointments a week or more in advance, dropping off your bracelet at a store while they come in and do the work, etc.

Most simulants are very easy to detect and it can be done in a few minutes. It’s possible to do it with a loupe if you know what you’re looking for but does take a bit of practice and some can be tricky. Most jewelers have a special tool for exactly this purpose. If you’re not confident that your stones are real, pay a visit to an appraiser or a jeweler and ask them this question directly. They should be happy to answer it immediately and while you wait, usually for free.
