From what I''ve read EGL certs are about 1 grade soft on the color, but the same or maybe slightly harder as GIA on the clarity. In this case, even if the diamond was only an E color I''d be okay with it assuming everything else checks out. I am especially concerned with the cut and how much fire it will produce, as color & cut are 2 of the main things my lady wants in a ring. I''ve read the princess cut AGA charts on how to determine cut but I still don''t feel comfortable enough making a solid judgement for myself.

Great cut? Good price? Could I do better?

Any pictures? With fancies like princess cuts, a picture tells more than the stats on the cert. An ASET or Idealscope will also be very helpful to determine the cut of the stone (light performance and light leakage). I''m also concerned with the SI2 clarity; princess cuts tend to not be able to hide clarity flaws as well as rounds. Is this stone eye clean to you?

Sorry, no pics available that I know of...I was just web shopping a local vendor where I found a nice Kira Kara setting I liked. In regards to being eye clean, not sure, I haven''t seen it in person yet or spoke with anyone at the store.

Ok I want to try to play. I''m trying my best to learn about princess cuts so experts..how did I do?

Table is a bit large...moving away from an "ideal" or "premium" cut.... I''m just going off my handy PS chart here....

Like Chrono said...the images would help the experts chime in here. They will lead you to a great stone if this one you posted isn''t already.

(I know nothing so please don''t listen to me! I''m just trying to learn what''s good and what''s not!)

To make shopping a lot easier if the vendor doesn''t have an Idealscope or ASET, I''d go with AGS0 rated stones. It''s probably a bit more than an EGL stone but you are guaranteed a top killer sparkly princess cut stone. AGS is the only lab that grades their princess stones based on cut and performance (using the ASET).

Any others have input?

And for the record, this stone would have to be eye clean to be a serious consideration.
