I''m not really sure what to do. I have been working with a local goldsmith to customize a wedding band for my wedding. He informed me yesterday that he cannot have it done in time for my wedding (which is 18 days away) because he thought it was later in March instead of March 1. I am dead set on having a wedding band for my ceremony and due to the look of my engagement ring I cannot just go out and buy a new one. I have no idea what to do or where to go...

Any advice at all would be very much appreciated!

When did you place the order? Can''t he pull out all the stops to have it ready in time? I think thats awful for you!

I can help if you are in Wisconsin. Are you?

If not, DOCUMENT in writing your reliance on this joker and the consequences of his failure to perform. If you have to postpone the wedding (not that you would), the cost would be high. Depending on your state, it is highly unlikely he could be held accountable for the whole cost of your wedding. However, most states have very favorable "choice of remedy" common law in situations like this one. FYI -- if he is hosing you on purpose to hurt you or make you miserable, he''s in SERIOUS civil trouble.

Yes, well... damn!

I hope you can have the most perfect wedding possible, despite the ring. I would hate to be comtemplating litigation 18 days before my wedding - maybe he can jam on it fo you. How did he come to think the wedding was later in the month?

It was his mistake, so he should do what it takes to get your ring to you by your wedding. I'd probably hammer that point home again and again (preferably in the store, where other customers can hear how dissatisfied you are) until he keeps his original promise. Not your fault he got the date wrong and is busy now.

PS: Danny, you make me larf.

To the OP, I''d try to work with said jeweler, or get him to supply a band for the ceremony and then get the wedding band once it''s finished. Can you tell us who made your setting?? That would help. Sorry you are going through this.

If he previously said it would be done in time and you told him the date before, it''s his responsibility to make this happen and keep his dates straight. I would go over there and be assertive, but friendly and make sure it happens. There is still a couple of weeks until March 1st and he should pull out all the stops and make it happen!!!

Wow, that is SO frustrating! I mean, March 1 is still a couple weeks away. Your ring should be at the top of his priority list, since you have been promised it by that date. Otherwise, you deserve a serious discount.

...so then, just how do you suggest we file it?

ar ar ar....just kidding. A joke. Meant to make you giggle. And maybe cool you down a bit. No we need ice cream for that.

Welcome to PS Dan...

Taragill...I feel so terrible for you. Is there any sentimental family heirloom you can use for a stand in? Any other jeweler who can melt something down for you to make it even more special that Jerk Jewelry guys? James Avery (link, but you can look in other category beside wedding) has some great sterling silver rings...you could get an inexpensive matching pair and engrave something meaningful...and wear it again on each anniversary~ oh I am trying to come up with something, not working is it? It is a dilemma.

I so wish I could help you some way. I have no other advice legal or otherwise...

First of all, I can totally sympathize with you!! My ring came in a week before the wedding, 1mm wider than I had ordered! I was so upset, because I didn't like the 5mm width, which is why I specifically ordered 4mm. My ring is carved with little diamonds. With only a few days left, they quickly carved a 4mm ring, shipped it to the USA ( the maker was in UK), and we used it in the wedding (because I wanted the ring that got blessed to be my real ring), and then sent it back to put the diamonds in. (My then fiance had to meet the jeweler after our rehearsal dinner in a parking lot at around 10pm, and the first I saw it was 2 seconds before the wedding began.

I also bought a backup ring, in case it wasn't done in time, so that I could keep the ring that got blessed, even for my right hand. (The priest wound up blessing both.)

Well, in the end it worked out, but I was frazzled. I tell the story in case it gives you any ideas. I hope you can get it worked out.
