Twelve years to the day of receiving my beautiful engagement ring my kiddos decided to lose it for me. (Orignal ring was a nice 1 carat solitare with a nice yellow gold ring wrap from 1996. The wrap was not what I would pick now but it did a great job of showing of fthe center diamnod. The center diamond was fantastic- hubby picked it out and I always received compliments on it. ) Anyway the insurance check is in the mail and I am back in the market. I was thinking of something completely different like an Asscher. I found this diamonod and was wanting some comments. It is around 6,800

Carat weight: 1.27,,Cut: Very Good ,Color: H, Clarity: VVS2, Depth %: 68.7%, Table %: 61%, Symmetry: Very good, Polish: Excellent, Girdle: Slightly thick to thick, Culet: None
Fluorescence: None, Measurements: 5.97 x 5.87 x 4.03 mm ,Length/width ratio: 1.02

I am also open to comments on whether everyone thinks I should go back to the traditional round or try something new. (Short of losing another ring I doubt I would ever upgrade.) Do you think the Asscher will remain in style?

Anyway, the only thing I would say is that you may want to look at a higher color and lower clarity (but no less than VS2)...I had an asscher (GIA) with "I" color...and "H" may show a little warmth.

I found this online- at one the larger dealers- but did not see any pics. Would a copy of the report help or do you need pics of the diamond itself? I feel like a fish out of water- thank you for your patience.

Sorry for your loss, but glad your ring was insured. BTW, have you tried on any/many shapes other than rounds? I too love "asschers" and have an eternity ring of them, but it is quite a departure from the round brilliant. Not to be a debbie downer/nervous nellie, but I would highly recommend you try on squarish stones in several carat weights around your budget and see what you think. KWIM?

One warning is that asschers are deeper and will face up smaller than a round, so keep in mind that a 1 ct. round is about 6.5mm. They also really have to be kept really clean to look good.

I would advise you to take your time and read through the forum a little longer. Especlally look at the top thread on the "Show Me the Ring" forum. There are so many good choices, but it is really hard to beat an ideal cut round as far as overall size and appearance goes. You also might want to take the opportunity to upgrade in size a little while you are making the change, too!

Thanks for the great advice. I am planning on upgrading on the size- not sure by how much. Would hate for the new ring to look smaller. I do need to go into a store and spend some time trying them on. I really like the pics I have seem of the Asschers but am scared that I will miss my good old round. What does KWIM mean?
