Help Please with Ritani and Platinum Question

Hello, Texicans had posted on a great find on a Scott Kay setting at Bailey Banks & Biddle. So I ran down to my local store that is closing in 7 days and found this Ritani setting that I believe will hold my diamond that I currently have. The setting is Platinum and is 80% off...which brings the price down to $450 plus tax.

I currently have my princess in a Vatche royal x prong in 18k white gold..and paid more than 2x that price for it...I have always wanted platinum

and this is more the style I was looking for. My diamond is a 1.74 AGS 0 Princess from Good old Gold...and I think this Riatni ring has a little more substance to it for the size of my stone...

Anyway...on to the questions...

This ring Ritani setting that I am looking at is a size 7...I am a size 5.5 Can this be sized down that much?

Does anyone have a rough estimate of what they think sizing platinum would be? I would call Good old Gold but they are not open.

Does anyone also have a rough thought on the price of setting a stone?

Does anyone know how much leaway there is in mm size of stone for a setting like this? I am guessing the cz that is set in there is a 6.5x6.5 and my stone measures 6.5x6.64 (right here)

I am trying to get a rough idea of the total cost of this as there is no returns....trying to do my homework and present my DH with enough reasons why this is a dood idea...he already knows I have my eye out for a new setting...we just were not planning on purchasing one NOW....but it seems like such a good find

)

Would it be unrealistic to think that if I did purchase it and for whatever reason i.e. diamond would not fit or couldn't be sized that I could recoupe the cost somehow thru ebay or Pearlmans consignment?

Any help, advice, or answers to my questions are much appreciated!!

what a great deal! think your stone will fit in fine, usually .2mm leeway on the safe side... one of my colored stone that was 6.6mm fit into a 7.5mm setting just fine, so I would think this would work with your stone.

Sizing down shouldn't cost you too much, it is sizing up that plat might need to be added that cost more.

ETA: rule of thumb 2 sizes up or down, shouldn't be a problem on plain shank setting

Thanks DT! I went over to a local Jeweler when I left there...as they are closing and don''t do any work on settings anymore...anyway this local place quoted me $150 ... is that high? or does that seem normal? seemed high to me...

I paid $250.- to have my pear set, so your price sounds OK to me.
