Hi advice needed please! I have just noticed this on my ring which I have had for 16 years. I have heard about Girdle reflection but mine is not a straight line it starts from the top and goes through the middle of the ring, however the other side of the diamond has nothing that I can see. So basically a line going through the diamond. I am wondering whether it is the Jellewer who reset my claws that has done this! I am very worried.

Can you get the report # and the name of the grading lab please?
Or take a picture of the clarity plot on the report?

I have to take off in a bit for a doctors apt so I'm going to comment further.
It is very highly unlikely it is damage. My guess is it has always been there but we need the report information to confirm.

So, without a report what color/clarity did the seller tell you it was?

Edit...and has the stone been well-cleaned lately?

Yes i clean it regularly. H/i rings a bell colour SI also i think
SI pavilion feather setting the grade would be in the range of possibility with what your showing.
I consulted a diamond brain trust and one of them pointed out that rarely setting issues can cause existing inclusions to expand.
Without a report to show us what was there when you bought it makes it impossible to say.

Thanks everyone who helped with my concerns. It’s not a crack thank God, the diamond is colour H SL1 3.76 carat. Just going to have it remounted. I’m so happy that I’ve not damaged my ring

Glad to hear its not a crack!

If you are going to have it remounted why not take the opportunity to send it to GIA and have it graded? Now would be the
time since you are having it unmounted.

Looks like cost would be $278 + shipping (if you are in the U.S.)

Of course, if you don't plan on selling anytime soon I'm not sure if its worth the investment...More for your own information.

You do not have to be a jeweler or (pay a jeweler) to send it.
Fortunately you are already paying someone to remove your diamond from its setting, which you shouldn't do yourself.
If you live near one of GIA Labs' locations in NYC or Carlsbad, CA (near San Diego) you can hand-deliver it and pick it up.
GIA also has labs in other countries, but I don't know about ability to had deliver by non-pros.

Before personally delivering a stone to GIA you do need to 'register' with them, which is free.
I've done this a few times and it was cool to see the GIA gem museum in Carlsbad.

IIRC the grading by GIA takes a few weeks, but I think they can rush it for a higher fee.
