Hi folks!

It's taken me forever to figure out which solitaire setting I want to get for my 1.71 I SI diamond. I am in LOVE with the custom Petite Torchiere shown in the video below. It's not the typical one you see on the Mark Morrell website; it has more exaggerated "branches" on the crown, and the positioning of the diamonds on the crown is different. What I love about it is the grace and swoopiness of the prongs/basket, as well as the woven effect, as well as the tapered in shank. I also like the touch of diamonds on the side for some small sparkle. I am a size 3.5 for reference, but I might size up a tad to size 4 (current size 3.5 ring is not as comfortable as I'd like).

Video link here. The video is over 3 1/2 minutes of beautiful diamond and platinum bliss!

Please vote!

1) Get this ring exactly as shown in the video, who cares if the diamonds on the side means that I have to be picky about the wedding band I wear with it. In fact, this means I'll most likely have to wear the ring by itself, and then get an awesome eternity band for my right hand!

2) Get this ring, but remove the side diamonds altogether, so I can wear it with whatever wedding band I want.

Please give me any last minute feedback before I pull the trigger and pay the man! I am mostly looking for confirmation and a sanity check!

I vote get the one with the diamonds and wear a spacer!

The ring is stunning and the claws and lovely basket detail really don't need the additional diamonds (although of course they're a nice to have). The diamonds in the shank are very low so it would probably be difficult to wear the ring long term next to anything else. So my vote would be to remove the diamonds for more versatility. Then you have far more choices for a w/ring or e/ring.

For reference, here are some photos Mark sent me of another person's ring. The side diamonds seem higher. I'm going to ask Mark if I can set them higher like this.... This one has a different shank, but I am going for the original tapered in shank.

Thats beautiful!!!!!!!!!! Wow. Delish!

I say get the exact ring (with the diamonds) just like in the youtube video and wear a spacer.

It is sooooooooo pretty.

That is so beautiful!! I say get it just as it is then either wear a spacer between the rings, get a wedding band that works with the ring or wear it by its self and get an amazing 5 stone or eternity to wear alone. Either way I love the ring as it is

Quick tally shows that it is:

3 votes to leave it as-is
1 vote to take out the diamonds

The great thing I am hearing from you all is that it's beautiful! Yay. It totally is! But what scares me is that if it's THAT beautiful in a video or photo, just how much more beautiful can it be in real life?! :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

To. Die. For. :appl: :lickout:

Shiney, so shiney.

just like the video and get a spacer!!!

I say remove the extra diamonds.

Keep the diamonds. A girl can never have too many. Get a teeny tiny spacer if you have to. I have always loved that setting. love love love.

Stunning and so unique! I'm not a fan of solitares but I adore this ring (the one in the video).

Keep the diamonds :D

I'd keep the diamonds. Depending on where they sit you may not really need a spacer. It looks like they are set just above the shank in the pictures so if the wedding band isn't too high it would fit fine. Just have MM make the wedding band for a flush fit.

Oh, I have drooled over the ring in the video! I would not make any changes to it.

I have the regular Petite Torchiere with diamonds in the crown and I have talked to Mark about my wedding band. He came up with three options:

1) a fitted band that curves around the basket of the ER
2) a low-profile spacer band between the WB and ER
3) a knife-edge band (Mark says "triangulated") so that the only contact between the WB and ER is at the donut of the ER (like wishful's set: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-mark-morrell-wedding-band.115610/)

I bet any of these would work for the modified ring, too. Can't wait to see pics of the completed project!

Little River, you were one of the first Petite Torchieres I've seen, and it got me research them even further! I love LoVE your ring!

I really like the idea of that "triangulated" band. It's so simple, classic, and elegant (my favorite adjectives!). Which band are you going to get?

I pulled the trigger and sent the man the money! No backing out now, heehee. I went for the ring as-is from the video :) I can't wait to share photos with you all once it's made and arrives, about six weeks to complete.... :appl:

Congratulations on pulling the trigger! You will not be disappointed, Mark's work is even more stunning in person.

Thanks for your kind comments about my ring. I am going for simple, classic and elegant too! I am 90% sure I am going to have Mark make me a 2 mm knife-edge band, I think it looks so elegant worn alone or with the ER. Then I can add a diamond band on the other side for an anniversary.
