just got engaged.

i got a 1.53 RADIANT CUT, F COLOR, VVS1 BUT I DONT KNOW THE NAME OF THE SETTING.
I DONT KNOW A THING ABOUT DIAMOND. I WENT TO THE MALL N ENDED UP IN THE JEWELRY STORE. I SAW A RING THAT IS SMALLER N LESS EXPENSIVE THAN MINE IN CARAT SIZE,IT IS A ONE CARAT IT ALSO WASNT A GREAT QUALITY BUT...........................THE SETTING MADE IT LOOK BIGGER THAN MINE. PLUS IT WAS THE SAME RADIANT CUT LIKE MINE.

SO I''M CONSIDERIG CHANGING MY SETTING BUT KEEPING MY STONE. HERE IS THE QUESTION.....................HOW DO I TELL MY FIANCE? WILL I BE HURTING HIS FEELINGS? HE MENTION TO ME THAT THERE IS A 30 DAY RETURN GUARANTEED.

THANX N I WILL APPRECIATE UR VIEW.

I would tell him now before the 30 day period runs out. If he mentioned to you that it could be returned within 30 days that makes me think that he wants you to have something that you like, so you should let him know now that you love the diamond, it''s absolutely perfect, but you think the setting is maybe not showing it off as well as another setting would. tell him that there''s one type of setting inparticluar that you''ve always wanted, and would he mind if you went to take a look at it together.

I''m sure that he''s so happy that he gets to marry you, and that you love the diamond, that he will want you to be completely happy with your ring. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

Plus, we''d love to see pictures!

Ditto!

If he is the one that mentioned the return policy to you, then go ahead and take advantage of it now while you can.

There is a lot to learn about diamond quality, and if you are interested in getting the best looking stone, you might want to ask some questions before continuing to ring shop! Many of us have found that mall stores do not generally carry the best diamonds. Good luck in your search!

Welcome!

You know your fiance best, if you think he would be ok with it, then I would broach the subject to him to see if you could get an exchange.

Also as Diamondseeker says, there is a lot to buying a well cut diamond, although Radiants are best judged by the eyes, you might want to read up on the tutorial, and then see if the store can call in some more diamonds for you to see, if you have to do an exchange with them only. One thing you want to try to make sure of, is that the diamond you buy looks the right size for it's weight. Here is a chart which may help.
