I''ve planned my proposal in Paris and have all the travel plans set. The only thing left to do is.... GET THE RIGHT DIAMOND! :)

I''ve been reading through the forum and have heard great things about WF''s ACAs. Right now I''m considering these diamonds:

I will be setting this in platinum (in a tiffany channel like setting) and am concerned about getting an I colored diamond. Would there be any noticeable color? Would the cut make up for that? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Both look good. Color depends on you and your gf''s color sensitivity.

Thanks! We looked at I colored stones at Tiffany''s and she had a hard time identifying the difference between a E and an I (it probably was the light). I just don''t want it to show up yellow in the setting. I''ve heard that the minimum for platinum is an H. Is that true?

Well, when I looked at un-set stones, I could easily see the difference between a D and an H, so I got a G (not an ACA or similar H & A cut). However, I more recently got Whiteflash ACA stud earrings, I color, set in white gold, and was so thrilled with them that I got a ring with them as well (0.3 ct size, 5-stone ring). I honestly can''t tell the difference between those and my G unless I look SUPER close, and I wish I had gotten an I color for my e-ring now.

I think in ideal-cut stones, an I or even a J can look stunning in platinum. in fact, if you do a search for it, there are several threads on this forum about both I and J colored stones set in platinum - looking at pictures may help you to make your decision

Depends on your tolerance, but I'd say unless you work in jewellery or with paints or a microscope you'd be fine with anything up to an I/J - even K.

The tint in the I will be noticeable in that size if you put it next to a colourless stone or a sheet of white paper - esp. from the side, but it won't be "yellow" or "brown" - just dimmer, more ivory, softer - less stark. On its own - on a finger, without a colourless stone of comparable size perched right next to it, I think few people would note any colour.

Both stones are just gorgeous!!

I prefer the first one.

Thanks to everyone for the quick responses!
QueenMum - any specific reason you preferred the first one? Was there something I should be looking at?

Thanks again!

Nothing concrete, it''s just the picture, I prefer the look of first one.
:)

On the color question - my J solitaire set in palladium came to day - it is definitely warmer (ie. not stark white in some lights) than really high color rated stones, but it is by no means yellow or brownish. It looks great in the setting, and in most lights is perfectly white. Color really is a personal preference thing.

If you can''t decide, ask for Bob Hoskins at WF to discuss them with you, he might be able to help you choose.
