91230 - Mazza - Render 2.jpg 91230 - Mazza - Render 3.jpg Hello!

Myself and my partner are currently in the process of designing my engagement ring.

We have received the CAD which I absolutely love but I'm torn between two diamonds. Our original budget for the ring was $5000 AUD.

These are the two choices:

.56 round F Si1 excellent cut - $4800 including setting

.70 round F SI1 excellent cut - $6000 including setting

I like the idea of having a .70 carat centre diamond but it is slightly out of our original budget.

Is the larger diamond worth the extra $1200 and will it be noticeable? I wear a size 5.5

Thank you!

The stones aren't GIA graded but from a a very reputable jeweller in my City. They were both super clear stones.

So stuck on what to do!

Are they graded at all?

We need to know the angles and measurements in order to ascertain if they are cut well or not.

If you are happy to share your budget and your desired carat / colour / clarity, we can find you stones that will definitely perform well :)

Do not commit to those stones until we have tried to help you!

Hi Lina and welcome!

Are these diamonds graded by any lab? This is really important because if they aren't lab graded, they could be any quality and without the basic proportions, we can't help you evaluate the cut or which is ' best' in any way.

As an example, depending how well these diamonds are cut, your heavier one might not look much bigger than the smaller one, depending on its proportions, there's no way for us to tell if the size difference will be noticeable, in fact, it might not be very noticeable at all.

Can you double check with your jeweller if he has any more info on these diamonds please?

Are those US dollars? Beacuse if they are you are being charged quite a bit (especially in ungraded stones).
For example...
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...f-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4849128 $2660
Setting
https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...-pave-diamond-halo-engagement-ring-item-53053 $1350 currently

Total - $4010

And the difference between a .56 and a .7 will be noticeable between 2 well cut stones. Only you can decide whether its worth the money.

For $6k you could have a Whiteflash ACA (super ideal branded stone)

or

Stones
.7 F https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3964559.htm $2954
.80 F https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3638360.htm $4241 Expert selection

Hey @tyty333, I think it's $5,000 AUD.

I like using the JA setting @tyty333 recommended instead of custom building one. You can get some great stones with certifications and super ideal cuts for this price range. FYI, if you sign up for emails at JA, you can get $100 off your first order. This brings the setting down to $1,250.

These options get you somewhere between a .606ct and .71ct super ideal hearts & arrow cut diamond and the basically the same setting you were talking about. These diamonds will be cut right and have legitimate certifications.

FYI, the larger stones are roughly 5.7mm x 5.7mm and the smaller one is 5.42mm x 5.43mm. Click on the links for EXACT measurements.

For reference, BGD has a .56ct stone in stock that measures 5.30mm x 5.33mm.

Option 1 = $1,250 setting + $2,811 diamond = $4,061 ($5,393 AUD)
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/.../0.606-e-vs2-round-diamond-bkags-104095888017

Option 2 = $1,250 setting + $3,004 diamond = $4,254 ($5,650 AUD)
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...nd-ags-104097998095#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/0/

Option 3 = $1,250 setting + $3,039 diamond = $4,289 ($5,696 AUD)
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...nd-ags-104095888011#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/2/

FYI, in my own recent search, I ended up buying a slightly smaller stone (0.867ct vs 0.90ct) but because it was proportioned and cut better, the dimensions were actually larger on the smaller weighted stone.

There is about ZERO chance I would pay that kind of money for non-certified stones and especially with no information. They may be excellent stones, but I'm inclined to think if they were that excellent they would be certified. Do not buy those stones at your local jeweler until you get more info!

Hello @rockysalamander. I appreciate the kind welcome. I checked the Diamond and Jewelry Trade Person box when signing up, but for some reason, the badge was not automatically appearing. So I reported that to admin and it’s appearing for me now. Let me know if it you still can’t see it and I will report it again. Thank you very much.
