Hi all,

I am in the process of having a solitaire pendant made. The setting will be a 3 prong martini in WG with a yellow gold chain. I originally chose this stone https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4166397.htm but with the Covid production delays the pendant completion was pushed back a bit and now this stone is available https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3964556.htm. Liza has been nothing but lovely with all her patience and help. I am just hoping to get a few other opinions before I decide. Is there anything about either stone that makes you choose or not choose it over the other? They are both ACAs so I know they will be gorgeous. I did see the I stone in person and the inclusions were not visible to me. They sit along one of the arrows. TIA!

Did you purchase the I SI2? It says sold.

Both have inclusions that may be obvious in some lighting environments.
You would need to see both of them in person to determine which is more eye and mind clean to you, depending on the position of the inclusions.
I’m the last person on this forum who would encourage anyone to avoid an SI2 clarity graded diamond (I own one).
It’s the placement of the inclusions, and their impact on the performance that make the difference.
F/G is my sweet spot for color in modern cut diamonds, but I would imagine the I will be bright white, especially in an ACA.

@Matthews1127 Not sure if OP already purchased the I color as it’s sold but maybe to someone else as the G is reserved so maybe the G is still being considered by OP. If so, my vote would be for the G regardless. The I color will definitely be noticeable, regardless of any “masking” by its cut. And we are comparing stones of same cut quality so it is apples to apples comparison. Also, I prefer the profile of the table and crown height of the G over the I. I, too, have an SI2 and the characteristics that made it so are not eye-visible. Not even close up. So OP should, as you suggested, should find out what the clarity is all about for that one (if not already made a purchase).

Headlight and Matthews1127, thanks so much for taking the time to respond! I did purchase the I stone, saw it in person and then put the piece into production. During the covid pause I was just searching for fun and found the G SI2 stone so I asked Liza about it. With my visual acuity I could not see the inclusions in the I stone with my eyes only. Liza said the dark spots fall right on the arrows so it is difficult to discern them. With the G stone the feather blend into the facets so I think same story and since it will be a pendant I think either would be great. I feel lucky to have found an SI2 in an ACA in the size and price range that I was interested in. I have never had a stone with a feather and so that is the part that is making me hesitate. Liza said there are no issue structurally or with setting. Given this, what do you think you would choose? The I stone is bright and I can really only see the color from the side but part of me does love the idea of going up ion color to a G!

Feathers are a very common clarity characteristic. If they said there is no structural concern then I would hope someone with the reputation they have is forthright. Quite honestly, from my understanding, a Super ideal manufacturer is only going to use rough of a specific quality to take the time and expense to craft the stone. Could you see a color difference between the 2? It’s so great you could see them in person! I love small tables... when I see a 55 (which is what my 3x has) I get “giddy”, and paired with the higher crown. My BGD is a 57-14, similar to the I you have under consideration and it is most more of a flatter look. One isn’t better than the other, just preference. That look can be more spread-y but I see that the mm size is virtually the same between the 2 so you will get the same visual size. Will the dark spots under the arrow(s) alter the look of the arrow? I would imagine not given the ACA is all about those beautiful arrows (amongst all their other attributes!), so if they say not a problem I’m going to take that as truth, but I haven’t seen nor spoken with your rep so you know the real life visual and the discussion. If the feather isn’t an issue I just like the profile of the proportions better of the G and also I think an I color is really a difference even from H. And you are comparing to a G. I am color sensitive so this is really important to me, a lot of PSers don’t have an issue. As some perspective, the difference between my 3x (so not as well cut) E color makes my BGD super ideal H look tinted by comparison. And you are taking about an I. Maybe I’m just really too over the top on this point because I had an I stone previously, altho more of a 60-60 cut style so definitely more “bright” and I hated the tint. My other point is that we have a LOT of PSers who have branded super ideals that get I or J and end up changing to something of higher color because the tint begins to bother them, in-spite of the precision cutting. As for the proportion profile I keep mentioning, my BGD, as I said, has that “flatter” look as I call it, and while the performance is insane, it would not have been the flavor I would’ve chosen had I bought it outright... the reason I have it with those proportions is because it was a recut so he has to work with what he was presented with.
Either way you can’t go wrong but I’m just a color and profile person. As I recently mentioned on PS, even though I now have this super ideal that is much larger than my not perfect proportions 3x, I find myself wearing the 3x more because of its E color, smaller table and higher crown. And even when I do wear the BG, I miss wearing the lesser cut because of these 2 factors.
I don’t mean to confuse you or cause angst, I just relating my experience. I hope it helps one way or the other, regardless of your selection. Again, your performance will be a knockout... it’s just these other elements (color and profile) and, for me, they count for a lot, beyond cut. Pick your flavor! Best of luck. Please let us know your choice.

Headlight, thanks so much for your detailed thoughts! I have decided to upgrade to the G stone and look forward to posting the piece when it is finished. Thanks again!!!

I SUPER excited for you!!!!!!!!!! I do not think you will ever regret your decision to go for the G, and that side profile will be yummy!
