I started this journey on finding a ring a couple of months ago. It started with lots of lurking on here getting familiar with prices and what's what in picking a "good one". My original plan was to try and find a cushion diamond, and after seeking some advice and getting a little frustrated, I have fallen in love with the round brilliant. I feel there's more inventory to pick from, and it's easier to buy a RB online with photography. I also discovered that the look I wanted is easily achieved with a RB center in a cushion shaped halo.

I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on what I want now.

This setting is a lock: http://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/french-set-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-in-14kt-white-gold/6114

My budget is low, so I have to make compromises. I haven't been able to eek out a bigger carat weight. Any time you go over the magic .6 the price jumps up unnecessarily. These are the 3 diamonds I am considering for it (all AGS certified):

1) .58 H SI1 "eye clean" Ideal (Symmetry/Light) Excellent (Polish) -- considered to be overall "Ideal" HCA 1.4 - Excellent
2) .595 J SI1 "eye clean" Ideal (Symmetry/Light/Polish) "A Cut Above" -- considered to be overall "Super Ideal" HCA 1.1 - Excellent
3) .591 I VS2 "eye clean" Ideal (Symmetry/Light) Very Good (Polish) -- considered to be overall "Very Good" HCA 1.4 - Excellent

It's a case of "give a little get a little" for sure. I have no idea how polish will have an effect on perceived color, but I have heard that a well cut diamond will look better than a less than ideal cut. Seeing as "polish" is lumped into cut, I am not sure if that's the proper way to make a compromise. Also, looking at the 40x images, I seem to be able to see the inclusions on #2 the easiest. I'm sure at anything less than 10x they are truely invisible and eye clean.

To me, #3 seems like the best balance, and it happens to be the cheapest. Honestly, I am probably getting overly nit-picky, but I work hard for my dollars, so any help I can get will help me feel better about this. Thank you to any and all advice!

I would take #2, the ACA

I would ask WF to elaborate on why #3 received a Very Good polish rating, just for peace of mind.

#3 still rates as ideal for light performance and symmetry, and polish is by far the least important cut rating. Very Good polish issues won't be visible to the naked eye, and probably impossible for all but experienced gemologists under 10x magnification. It apparently doesn't affect light performance enough to move AGS's needle, so I'd say you're safe.

The ACA is a J color, so it may show a bit of warmth in certain lighting. It's right on the borderline of perceived color while standing alone.
