I wanted to get everyone's thoughts. I started a Wedding Logo Contest and received numerous selections. We can't seem to pick - which one do you like best? We aren't going for a traditional and elegant wedding - as such, our logos are more "fun". Since I am only limited to 10 poll options, please choose form a category and specify the number in comments.

To give you some more insight into the logos .. we are huge dog/cat lovers which is why there are a bunch of animal logos. #135 actually looks just like us. The logo will be used on our invitations, wedding website, favors, programs .. you name it. It will be great if the logo can be used in a way that our names aren't on it too - I hate wedding favors that are too personal and not reusable.

Thanks so much!

I liked the monogram, not because it was a monogram but I just liked the style of it. Have you considered where you will use the design and the theme of the rest of the wedding? That may have an impact on which you choose.

I kinda was fond of the dog & cat ones, especially the silhouette against the moon one- if you're going for fun/cute I thought those were a good choice. However for a little more elegant the monogram one was cool too, and still lighthearted.

ETA: #135 is another one I like, the smirk is amusing

I really like 88, 107, and 95. I like how fun they all are, but like the ones that are a little more graphic, like 88, better than the ones that are a little more cutesy or cartoony.

We did something similar at our wedding :)) My dad designed a monogram for us (he is a celtic artist) and we used it on the programme and invitations and cake toppers. It was really fun!

This is it from our programmes, our initials in knotwork.

If you want complete honesty -- They are all a little cutsey for me. I guess I'd prefer something more adult for a wedding. These feel very ... sweet sixteen or something.

89 (with something other than a heart in the center there) and 151 and 118 are the best IMO. Preference for 118, I think.

#1 = 129
#2 = 175
#3 = 89

But I have to agree with Gypsy. They are all a little 'cutsey wutsie' for me. #135 is probably the least "cute" one but I dont really like it. I think its better to be more abstract. JMO. Hope I havent offended.

I guess it all depends on your age. Cute is fine if you're 18 - not so fine if you are 40 something

If you like cats and dogs I'd probably try to find a graphic artist that can help you do something slightly abtract but generally representing a dog on its hind legs kinda in the shape of a K and a cat with its tail hanging down in the shape of a C.

A little bit like #118 but getting rid of the people, heart etc

First of all, thank you everyone for your votes - it is really appreciated so keep them coming.

I understand the "cute" comment but our wedding is really far away from being elegant or adult like. Afterall, we are getting married at the Science Center with our cocktail hours in the exhibits. It sort of tells what the theme would be like. The invitations are also not going to be very traditional. However, I am re-thinking the logos a bit ... none of them feel completely right.

No matter what the feel is...if it's more fun, or elegant, etc. I'd try to design a logo that ties into your theme. Maybe it's because I'm a month away from my wedding and I have all things wedding top of mind, but if I was standing in a Science center and saw little birds or dogs on the cocktail napkins or on the favor boxes, or ceremony programs or whatever you plan to use them for..I'd be a little puzzled about what that had to do with the theme of the wedding.

And, I say this as someone who's life literally revolves around animals be it home and work...and I have 4 rescued cats and 2 dogs...but I just don't "get it" for the wedding logo if that makes any sense. Maybe doing a custom cake topper or something that has an animal theme or a dog and cat that would represent the both of you would be special for you guys and incorporate your love of animals?

septsarkle - I am really struggling with the theme! That is exactly what our problem is .. there is none. I was hoping our wedding planner would have done this for us but she is completely useless as per a previous post.

Oh, I missed that post.

I would figure out what your theme is and do the rest of the stuff from there. It can be anything....you can spin off of the science center in some way...find something in your wedding colors that you can use throughout the decor...find one subtle aspect that you and your fiance both love and carry it on...use a season of the year you are getting married and carry that out...the possibilities are endless. Though I suppose that's what makes it so hard.

ETA:
Can I just tell you I am SO OVER the wedding planning and all the little details that now that we have our marriage license, I'm tempted to run off and just get hitched by ourselves! Oh and our RSVP's were due in yesterday and we are waiting on FORTY people to respond.

Okay...rant and threadjack over! sorry.

I think it will be easier once you choose a theme for the wedding because then your logo can be integrated with the theme you choose, but if you find a logo you really love, then the theme can be built around the logo. I'm sorry the wedding planner isn't any help in this area. I would have thought that would be their area of expertise? Anyway, I voted for #89, #88 and #61. I really like the monograms with the date. I noticed some of the logos didn't have the wedding date on them. Is it important to have the date as part of your logo?

I am all for a fun wedding, but I kinda agree with Gypsy. It also depends on where/how it will be used. I like the monogram best from the choices above.

My favorite by far is #118. It's charming and modern and romantic without being too cutesy.

I also like #135 for the same reason. It's sorta cute, but the strong graphic, almost ad-like elements appeal to me.

I don't mind #141, but it's a safe, old-fashioned choice.

The ones with just the birds and the dogs and cats look too cutesy and juvenile to me. I have to say, perhaps I'm just jaded, but I've seen way too many of those types with my fellow Asian friends and they sorta make me want to throw up. :naughty:

The ones on the last row, eh, a tad too cute, a tad too much contrast between the logos and the formal script, a tad just...not strong enough to make any sort of statement.

I feel like I have to go back to the drawing board - I think part of the struggle is that I agree with what everyone is saying. Either way, I have to pick a winner for the contest since it is all paid for. Does anyone have any logo ideas or suggestions? Any good designers?

I disagree that you need a *theme* per se to have a well coordinated look for your wedding. I think if you start with a color scheme and then a feel -- classic, elegant, ritzy etc -- then all you have to do is have everything linked with the color and feel you are going for! Or maybe that is what people mean by a theme? To me, it is the totality of all the details together that create the overall feel of the event.

You may already be doing this, but I found Martha Stewart Weddings *invaluable* for planning my wedding, both the magazine and the website. My color scheme cam from there and most of the details too. You don't need to reinvent the wheel, save yourself a headache and get inspiration from the master!

I agree with the comment they are a bit "young".

I do like the birds a bit, you can make a theme from that. I see birds, trees, stuff like that coming together.

Another option since its in a science center could be the umbrella reworked a bit. You can take the umbrella theme and use that.

However, I think instead of a "logo" you could get a really awesome mongram. Once you've picked a more solid them, you can incorporate that with it.

I picked #135 because you said it looked like you. Your friends and family will like that aspect, and be charmed I'm sure. It's modern, fun and the most personalized to you. ;))

Honey, I had a great wedding that I just wouldn't change much about (just the DJ really and the zipper on my dress) and I didn't have a theme. Nor did most of the brides I got married at the same time as. I had colors, I had a 'feel' but a theme? Not so much. I guess I think of themes as very Prom. Unless you are getting married on a holiday and that's your thing I don't think you need a theme. I hear people refer to their weddings as "garden' themed or 'fall' themed. But for me it's really more of a feel. Our wedding was at a vineyard and we did a wine tasting style cocktail hour but I didn't have grapes everywhere. The only vineyard thing I had was cork escort card holders. And that was because it was cheap (free, or venue just gave us a bunch of corks).

I wouldn't start with a logo. I would start with your colors, your venue, your dress and then think of what you want your pictures to look like.

I know folks who have had lots of birds at their wedding (rockzilla) but again... not really a theme. The guests didn't have to dress with feathers, the meals weren't all poultry. Etc.

I think you are over thinking it by a lot. Which is easy with weddings. Take a breath, step and and think... a year after the wedding am I going to look back and think... wow, I really obsessed about the theme and look it all worked out.

Weddings should be cohesive in style and feel and with the colors used. But that's all you really need. Just for things to 'work' together. It doesn't all have to be matchy matchy.

Think of it like decorating. You can go to furniture store and pick out the exact items in the display, matching couches and chairs, all matching coffee tables, all matching lamps and the rug someone designed to work with the set. It's a bit soulless, but hey, it's decorated. Or you can go to a vintage store and pick up a couple of coordinating but mismatched lamps, go to a furniture store and pick out a couch, grab an overstuffed chair from your parents basement, and get the wall art at an Arts and Crafts Fair.

The first is nice enough, but it's not yours. The second is sincere and it reflects YOU. Don't try to force everything into a theme. I think your guests and you will appreciate a wedding where things just 'flow' together regardless of whether the napkins, menu, program and invites were all from the same paper, with the same font, and with the same logo. Ya know? World keeps spinning if your menus are plain cream stock with just your names on the top, your invites are pink and gray and your programs are gray and cream with a pink flower embossed on them. You can even do gray and white for all the paper and fushia BM dresses and flowers and no wone will say "OMG! She's got pink flowers but her invites were NOT pink!" It all coordinates, and looks nice. And will save your sanity.

Thanks for the advice Gypsy. Perhaps I am over thinking it a bit - I have been to weddings that were all matchy matchy and it drove me crazy. I am scared of brown and pink ... also Tiffany blue now. We do have colors - white, silver, magenta and black. The bridesmaid dresses are either going to be black or magenta. We are definetly not young since we are in our 30s.

Great. You have colors. Why don't you do a couple of the collages everyone does that juxtaposes the type of dress, venue, flowers, BM dresses, decorations, cake etc you just like the look of, for whatever reason. If you do a few of those and post them maybe we can help you out a bit more.

I gotta be honest from the logo's I was thinking you'd have to shop at the hello kitty store for invites. So why don't you do a collage and pick some stationary styles you like, and other stuff just...keep it very stream of consciousness. Don't try to fit square pegs in round holes and just pick things you like without agonizing over the big picture of the event. Concentrate on on the individual elements. I like this style dress. I like these flowers. I like these invites. Don't worry about the whole just the pieces, put them into a collage. Or.. if you like 5 different styles of cake, do five collages. I think then we'll be able to help you better, and I think you will feel more in control and have a better idea at what is in front of you.

Here are some "feels" that I think would be fun.

"Modern Glamour" A little bit of old holywood glamour plus the WOW of fushia and magenta theme. Lots of bling and black and white tuxes and gorgeous luxury fun things, like feather boas and maybe some cool hats for the guys. Ask your photographer to do black and white and sepia shots with just pops of color, like everything is black and white, but the flowers are fushia true color (gotta love digital cameras).

Vintage Romance -- milk glass vases overflowing with roses, lace everywhere, pearls, lovely silver accents. And the magenta is kept to a minium. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2142/271 ... 4dfe_b.jpg

Modern Romance. Lots of clean lines everywhere, bold modern invites with lots of fushia and silver envelope liners. Ball gown silver embroidery and with a huge fushia bouquet. Lots of damask in black and white with accents of fushia (I think Havens wedding did something like this but with black white and green).

That's what I mean by "feels" http://blog.kateaspen.com/wp-content/up ... hisone.gif

I need to hire you as my personal wedding planner :)

For reference, this is what the venue looks like. The lighting in the room and on the wall can change - they have pink, blue, orange, green, etc. I think I am going for Modern Romance or Glamour. I really love a winter wonderland but it is a fall wedding

ETA: I hate Hello Kitty!

What an INCREDIBLE venue! WOW. You definitely should go with something like Modern Glamour. Think LA or Vegas and just a hit party, like something following the premier of a big blockbuster movie-- just over the top in your face adult (not in the x-rated way) FUN.

Thank you for the compliment BTW. No need to pay me, just page me if you need help. Most of the time, when I just want it straight, I'll post "Honest opinions wanted:" then whatever the topic is. Of course it means putting on my big girl pants and accepting what comes my way, but when I was a bride PS honesty saved me from a bunch of headaches.

You could totally do a rock and roll 'theme' too. Get old vinyl records and do something to them (spray paint them silver?) ... just thinking out loud. No damask. No lace in that space (except on your dress. your dress should be whatever you fall in love with).

I couldn't find exactly what I am thinking of... but here are a few invites that have say fun party wedding to me.

http://www.exclusivelyweddings.com/Wedd ... nvitations This one has 'wedding' touch, a bow, but done in black and abstracted out to a design. Love it. Magenta envelope liner.

http://www.minted.com/customizer/sku/WIL-KEL-INV Do the Monogram at the top in Magenta.
http://www.pinkpaperink.com/index.php/w ... black.html

http://www.pinkpaperink.com/index.php/w ... black.html FABULOUS grown up bird. I love this invite! And you can get it in Magenta instead of Gray, or any other color.

Anyway, these were just to illustrate what I think your venue conveys when it comes to "feel"... if I received one of these invites and I walked into your venue, I'd think them a good match. But if I received one of those logos on some paper and walked into your venue I'd be like... What the heck???

And yeah, I hate hello kitty too. But, as harsh as it was, it needed to be said.
