Hello,

After much debate and research, I decided to purchase this diamond
http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.43-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-200952

Initially I was planning on going with the JA French Cut Pave E Ring but after looking at real life pics I feel that the prongs are rather large and take away from the diamond.

I am looking for a platinum pave engagement ring that is set a little high (not cathedral style?) and am currently looking at the BGD Legera Pave or the BGD Novela

or

The Legera pave is still rather new and I wasn't able to find pictures that aren't on their website.

Are there any other settings you recommend?

What are the pros and cons of 4 vs 6 prongs?
Would 6 prongs not allow as much light through the pavilion?

And her ring size is a 7 so would you recommend staying away from anything less than a 2mm width?

Thanks!

Since you like the settings at BGD, speak with Leslie, she will guide you properly. Good luck.

If it helps, I'm super particular and I love both of those settings, I was looking at doing a pave with 6 prongs and I narrowed it down between a custom leon mege or those 2 settings. They said they could do it in a six prong for 100 or so more. Personally I love 6 prong over 4 so I suggest looking at the show me the bling thread to see what you like. I feel the 6 prong makes it look rounder and bigger. I think 4 is more common though. Two great choices. They did mention the new setting is more delicate and thinner, like a mini version if that helps. If you search for the novela here on the pricescope forum there have been a couple and they'ved turned out beautifully. Good luck!!

I personally like the Legera setting better but that is just personal taste. To me it looks more delicate and feminine which is how I like my jewelry.

I would also never do a 4 prong ring EVER. If anything happens to just 1 prong you can kiss your diamond goodbye. I prefer at least 6 prongs so that way if something happens to a prong your diamond will still be secure. I really doubt you will notice more or less light coming through the pavilion regardless of how many prongs you have but then again I'm not an expert.

And yes for a size 7 I would stay with something around 2mm-2.3mm.

Goodluck!

Thanks for the input everyone. I was actually considering asking BGD if they would be able to swap out the 4 prong on either the Novela or the Legera Pave for the 6 prong that Neil posted.

Those prongs on the more delicate legera...love it!

So I contacted BGD and they informed me that they can not use the 6 prong Tiffany style on the Legera Pave. They can only use the Tiffany Style 6 Prong on the Novela...

Is using the original setting that 6 prong is on out of the question?
