Is the diamond for yourself or are you buying it for someone else?

If someone else, have you asked what their preferences are?

ECs are very different to MRBs, so getting a person one when they are expecting the other is likely to lead to disappointment.

I'm buying for my girlfriend as an engagement ring -- she has told me she loves MRB's, but Emerald would be the only fancy cut she would wear due to the elegance and geometric pattern, which she is attracted to.

Any thoughts on the diamonds I posted? :)

1 - lower crown angle and larger table than some, so (I think...) it's likely to give more white light than coloured fire? Faceting looks nice to my eyes, although it's perhaps a bit 'low contrast' when rotated (not much dark contrast and strong white light return) - but the video setup is not conducive to either, annoyingly.

2 - I like the contrast patterning when head-on but I'm not sure if it might window (go see-through) when rotated? As per comments on 1, the video setup is not really conducive to real life performance assessment.

3 - Might just be my eyes or could be the video, but does it look a touch 'hazy' under the table? Not as 'crisp' as other stones?? Angles work, though, as per HCA score.

4 - I reckon HCA will be under 2 so no worries there. 59 table is on the larger end of the usual PS recommended range but looks nice to my eyes - 'crisper' than 3. The inclusion looks quite visible for a VS1 (IMHO) and is visible in facets around the stone as it turns, but it might well not be an issue in real life because the stone will be in motion.

5 - Not bad but not amazing (IMHO, of course) - windows in the far corner when rotated (which many do) and the faceting is definitely 'crushed ice' so likely to sparkle gently rather than have strong light return (as I understand it).

Oh, to confirm - your other half is aware and happy with an MMD?

Thanks so much for your response.

Yes - she'll be happy with an MMD and the ethical benefits.

It doesn't seem as if there's an obvious choice out of those 4 options. I feel as if the Emerald in 1 has nicer proportions and symmetry of facets. And perhaps out of the MRBs, 3 looks the cleanest (I agree the inclusion in 4 looks large).

In terms of setting - I am thinking quite classic (solitaire basket) in white gold or platinum. If I'm honest, there's something that is calling the #1 Emerald to me - although I don't know enough about this cut to determine whether this is a good diamond to go with overall. Any help pls anyone??

I can't comment on the Emerald. I only researched on RB because my wife prefers it. #3 shows strong stria I would avoid it. #4 has good angle but the table is quite large and the stone is showing some brown hue.

Do you have a timeline you are working to?

Are you in the USA or elsewhere?

If you were happy to share your budget we might be able to find some other options for consideration :)

Oh that would be amazing!!

I am in the UK.
My budget is, in USD, around 3000 (at the v highest end) for the stone. I am looking for a solitaire setting, which is what she would like - she has a very classic, timeless style usually.

Atm I have limited my searches to 1215 and James Allen given friends that have had previous experience with those vendors. Not really sure on other vendors - sometimes get a little overwhelmed with all the options, so would hugely value people's help :)

Tbh regarding timing... Covid has really messed this up as I had sourced a diamond from JA (to be delivered in April) and was going to Brazil to propose. But covid and financial difficulties meant the trip was off and the stone was going to be heavily delayed (so I pulled the plug). Since then, I'm a lot more educated, so maybe for the better.
