Help! I''ve asked this question before, but I think i need to change my prices. Basically the setting i like costs about $1300 and so i would like to find a less expensive diamond to make it more affordable to me. However, I would very much like your opinion. If you think that its a bad idea dropping my price because the quality would be noticeably less then please let me know. I was looking to only spend $5500 all together on the ring and setting, but after i asked the question the first time i was not that specific and the diamond i liked with the setting ended up costing $6600 at jamesallen.com. Its a great diamond, but kind of steep in price. Again if what information i provide below on what i am looking for makes you think that my price range is too low for getting a good diamond please let me know if i have to go up i will try to struggle and get it done, but if the difference is negligable then i''d rather spend a little less. The diamond i liked was this one that JulieN recommended. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=861720 However, the band i liked is this one. http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/classic-solitaire-settings.asp?module=setting&cid=58&item=282 What is your opinion of this combo by the way? Do you think Marquise/Round will look nice together? Okay here is what i''m looking for:

Length/Width 1.75 - 2.25
Carat 1.0-and up
Color Higher than H best for F or G
Cut Ideal or the best i can get for my price range
Clarity SI1 or higher
Table 54%-61.5%
Depth 59%-63%
Cutlet None
Girdle -Medium to thick
Flouresence Not too big of concern unless it has strong flourescence or is yellow

Loose Diamond price range: $3800 - $4300 (Again please tell me that if it will be worth the cost to spend that additional $1000 on a loose stone. If the quality is that much greater and will definitely be worth it then again i will try to struggle and get it)

You guys have all been great and i very much appreciate all of your help.

the diamond looks nice enough. i''m not really a fan of mixing rounds and angular fancy shapes and i really don''t care for channel set bands at all. so...yeah, i don''t like the combo very much.

if it were me, i would learn all i could about proportions of marquises, buy a loupe, then go pawn shopping. Marquises and pears are a dime a dozen secondhand. you could pick up a 1-1.5 carat for about 2k.

put it in a fresh setting, battabing!

don't be afraid of fluorescence it's purdy.

i like #2. i prefer fluorescense and it should be very pretty.

There's a 5% discount for being a PSer; $6251 isn't 5500, but it's something to keep in mind. Don't know if you've seen the Royal Crown? http://www.dvatche.com/ on the left.

JulieN do know of any that would look good with a marquise? It seems that that one you should me is more for a round you think or do you think it would look good with a marquise too? i know my girlfriend really likes the stones that go all the way around.. however, if all of you think that it looks nice what do you think of a combination one like this, but maybe with a couple of smaller marquise diamonds surrounding the big stone? and then the rounds that go around it? this one at blue nile was the only one i could find like my description... unfortunately it looks as if its only available in round or princess cut... do you all know of any places that sell the band similar to this, but would look okay with a marquise?

Marquise with pears: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/thank-you-facets-collection-signed-pieces-for-this-wonderful-marquise-e-ring.43012/

I also think the Vatche Royal Crown would look divine. The marquise was on the bottom, laying down, but the profile shot with the round is the same setting. It also comes with channel-set rounds.

If she wants a diamond band, she'll have a diamond band. Here is what I was thinking of, a shared prong setting: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/i-finally-have-a-picture-of-my-own-to-share.48962/ but if you go down to near the bottom of the page, there is the marquise ring next to a channel-set ring, and it looks pretty good.

I considered having my diamond set in a shared prong eternity band setting, or a channel set eternity band. But I decided that I didn''t really go for the eternity band look after I tried some on. But when I was considering those, I thought that the settings at Facets were gorgeous and very affordable. You might look at those. They have some that are solo settings, and some in the flush fit settings. They will make your setting to accomodate pretty much any shape or size center stone, and they work in both white and yellow gold, as well as platinum. I have purchased from them several times, and they are great to work with and have excellent customer service.

My center stone came from an online vendor, but my setting was by a local B&M jeweler. I found that I got a better deal with the center stone by using an online vendor. There was much more selection, and the prices were better.

My setting is versatile the way it is. I can wear it as a stand alone ring, with a plain gold band, a matching diamond band, or an eternity band. Sometimes if you go too elaborate with the setting, you are limited about what bands will match back with it. Just keep that in mind.

I like the look of the channel set band. I think you''d have an easier time matching a channel set wedding band with it than you would a prong set wedding band. Maybe you should take her window shopping and have her try some different looks on and see what she seems to gravitate to before you make a final decision. I am a FIRM believer in letting the gal have some input in her ring.

I also do not love the first setting for a marquise. The band and the marquise shape just don''t go too well together, IMO.

As for the 2 diamonds you posted, I like the first one. Really great numbers, though I would have to know if it was eye clean and how visible of a bow tie there is. Getting a D is not the way to save any money. And it is really unnecessary for most people.

I like that first ring you linked, Jazmine, but the second ring looks too much like a right hand ring or maybe a cocktail ring for my taste. It just seems to have too much going on, what with the size of the MQ, the east west setting, the halo, and the pave on the shank.
