I have the opportunity of purchasing a used Bvlgari Corona ring with a .50Ct round diamond. I would like to purchase it and then set a <1ct round diamond. Is it possible to modify this setting to fit the 1ct stone?
I cannot take it to a jewler before purchasing it and i am not interested in the setting if it wont fit a larger diamond.

Here is the model from Bvlgari´s webpage: http://us.bulgari.com/productDetail.jsp?prod=AN850946

I attach an actual picture of the ring with the .50ct stone.

Thank you in advance,

It is possible to call Bulgari customer service and ask them?

I wouldn't do that. It would have to have a new head to fit the larger stone, and that setting is clearly made for the size stone it has. I'd leave it as it is or else wait and find another ring that has the right size diamond.

Looking at that, no I don't think it can be made into a reliable setting for a larger stone.

Have someone custom make you that setting or something close to it.

This.

The head/froggie prongs are very particular on the Corona. I wouldn't mess with it.

cheers--Sharon

Ditto. No way. You'll lose any value associated with the Bulgari setting by altering it to fit a much larger stone.

Thank you all. I ended up following your recomendations and did not purchase it.
Cheers,

That style of setting is called a belcher setting. If you're not set on Bvlgari, you can find similar ones online though most of them are yellow or rose gold but I"m sure white gold/platinum has been done.
