Hello! I'm here to see if anyone has some experience with Tiffany rings or even buying them second hand. We're thinking of pulling the trigger on this one:

http://m.ebay.ca/itm/252074522030?ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F0%2Fe11010.m1951.l1653%2F7%3Feuid%3D1fd1716bcde140d886398fbbc163c66d%26loc%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fcgi.ebay.ca%252Fws%252FeBayISAPI.dll%253FViewItem%2526item%253D252074522030%26srcrot%3De11010.m1951.l1653%26rvr_id%3D0&_mwBanner=1

The seller is negotiating a slightly better price so it's really tempting. He sent us a paypal invoice with all of the details and pictures and it sounds like PayPal will protect us if it turns out to be counterfeit but I'd much rather avoid buying a fake in the first place! For those that have bought Tiffany rings, does all of the paperwork look legit to you? We're in France and the ring is in Montreal so unfortunately I can't meet him at a Tiffany store.

Thank you so much for any insight!

Did you buy it? It is showing as sold. It looks good to me. I would maybe use a credit card for extra protection. Get it authenticated as soon as possible. If it needs to be sized, be sure to only let Tiffany do it.

Thanks for your reply! It's showing as ended but unsold to me. We haven't bought it yet but are thinking of buying it today as we've gone back and forth for a couple of days now. He sent me an invoice through PayPal with all of the information and pictures. To get it authenticated do I just take it to Tiffany with all of the paperwork?

Thanks!

If it's just a paypal invoice then you might not have ebay's buyer protection. The seller would also avoid the 10% ebay fee so hopefully the price is reduced accordingly.

I would want the ebay buyers protection. That one picture of the stone was not very good. I would have wanted some more
up close pictures of the stone.

Well, I won't deal with any eBay vendor who has a no returns, no refunds policy -- unless the selling price is so low that I don't care if I do not get my money back. And yes, an "outside eBay" deal for an item listed on eBay is a violation of eBay policies (can result in suspension-revocation of seller's and buyer's membership) & disqualifies the purchase from eBay's own Buyer Protection program. So if you really want to go through with it, diamond seeker's suggestion of using a credit card is a good one (and can be done via PayPal); you cannot attempt a chargeback if the Paypal payment was made via a debit card or other deduction from your bank account(s).

It looks promising because the engraving on the inside of the shank corresponds with the weight and ID # number reported on the Diamond Certificate + the estimated retail replacement valuation report. You would want to confirm that number is the same as the one engraved on the diamond itself [the Certificate tells you that the diamond was so engraved].

But unless things are different in Montreal, Tiffany itself will not authenticate the item.
