Help! OEC vs. AGS Ideal

Also, thank you all for being so helpful and supportive with me. Your posts have been awesome and I really appreciate it. I am learning a lot, so hopefully I will be able to give some advice to people like me on here in the future. I will make sure I post pictures of the ring when its done too (hopefully second week of December).

I wouldn't worry about the clarity. It still is eyeclean by most definitions. It isn't THAT unusual for someone (especially younger and nearsighted, like me or you) to be able to see an inclusion from juuuuusst the right angle after scrutinizing the plot, then staring at the diamond for a long time from inches away. Though I consider my SI1 to be eyeclean, if I tip it just right, and look at it from underneath, I can make the light flash a teensy bit off a feather if I tip it back & forth. Sometimes. Sounds pretty similar, eh?

Unless the inclusion glares at you from a mere glance at arms length, I'd say it is just fine. Chances are real good your GF will never notice. Especially if she isn't nearsighted! There are plenty of diamonds with VS clarities that you can spot the inclusion under the sort of scrutiny that you gave the SI1, especially if you have the laser-like closeup vision that sometimes comes with nearsightedness, which I sure have and sounds like you do too. (Strmrdr has explained that his wifey2b has a VS-something like that, though he is the only one that can spot it.)

It isn't unusual to experience the "oh god what have I done" moment after spending a lot of $ on a rock. You did good!

Too bad about the OEC- better tell your mom she has to wear it now! Still, I'm sure your GF will be *thrilled* with your choice, it looks superlative.

That OEC sure was stunning, but I''m actually glad to hear you''ll be going with the AGS ideal you bought! It''s a STUNNER! She''ll be blown away by the sparkle and SIZE of it. I actually really love antique cuts too, but for some reason when it came to my own engagement ring, I really wanted it to just be my own. Don''t get me wrong, I SERIOUSLY hope to have an OEC one day, but I love the fact that my e-ring is brand new just for me. Maybe you gf will feel the same way, especially when she sees it! Only you can make the call about the diamonds on the shank, but I highly doubt she will find that enormous rock boring. In fact, I think the bigger the center diamond, the more simple the setting should be. (Of course there are many who don''t agree

). Anyway, if you''re worried about the eye clean thing, ask Leon to eye ball it for you, although I have no idea whether or not it would be too late. Good luck and be sure to post lots of pictures when she says yes!
