Hello All,

I am new to this very informative forum. I just wanted to find out your expert opinion on which of these 2 do you thinks is the best.

1) Which one is best and why ?
2) Which would you not pick and why?
3) Good and bad about these diamonds?
4) Anything else i should know?

The 2 diamond links are as below.

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.01-carat-f-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-189621

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.03-carat-g-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-188692

All your expert comments and advise would be really appreciated.

Regards

Hi gcoimb2-

You might want to post your question over in the Rocky Talky forum - that's the place to go for diamond info. You can ask the mods to move your post. Good luck!

As VR beauty said this should be moved and you can do that by hitting the "report concern" button and asking the mods to have it moved. Personally, I like the numbers better on the G VVS2, although I don't think you need a VVS2 clarity stone. But, overall, I think it's the superior stone and it's slightly bigger. So that gets my vote!

I thought that was the location where i posted it. Can you please help me ?

It's now in the right place, no worries ::)

I agree. What's are the prices on these stones? Could you not find VS options for cheaper?

I just can't seem to get my head off the VVS2. The prices are around 10,000.

which of those 2 do you think is good and which one would you avoid.

Neither scored below 2 on the HCA but the G scored slightly better: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

IMHO, I would keep looking. Once you get 3 diamonds with HCAs below 2, ask JA to hold the diamonds and get Idealscopes on them. Then post them to Pricescope for ppl to evaluate.

But the link you sent me has a Fluorescence:Medium Blue. I thought Fluorescence should be none.

even better!!! its gorgeous and it helps the stone look whiter!

You've probably heard bad things about fluorescence from other jewelers, but the fact is that it's not really warranted (especially in a medium blue). Fluorescence is nothing to fear, and 04diamond is right, it'll help the stone look whiter in some situations (like direct sunlight). You can read more about it here: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-flourescence

From the new batch of 4, I like the first two over the second two. But 10K for 1.0-1.1 caraters! You really don't need to pay for anything over VS1. I suggest you go bigger.

I like this one because of the fluorescence: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.03-carat-g-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-87382

But honestly, I'd just pick the 3 cheapest ones and get Idealscopes on them and ask the JA gemologist for his/her opinion on the stones. Also, remember to ask for the PS discount!

Ok here is my final 3 for which i have requested a scope image.

Please let me know which of this three is the best and why?

First and third ones are canadian diamonds.

They say that the prices are cheaper than after the PS discount. Whom should i talk to about this discount. Is there any other discount i can ask them?

All your reviews and suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you :)

Still this one: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.03-carat-g-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-87382

I use these guidelines from this Nice Ice article: http://niceice.com/brian-gavin-select-vs-signature-diamonds/
Some people on this forum don't like because they're overly strict). And this diamond fits their criteria the best:

Total depth between 59 – 61.8% and maybe up to 62%
Table diameter between 53 – 58%
Crown angle between 34.0 – 35.0 degrees and I truly prefer 34.3 – 34.9 degrees
Pavilion angle between 40.5 – 41.0 degrees and I truly prefer 40.6 – 40.9 degrees

And if this diamond is really is a Birks Canadian diamond, then I think that's cool too: http://www.birks.com/en/static/diamond_learning/canadian.htm

ask for Ideal Scopes on the final 3.

Thanks sortmon for providing the info and therelated links.

Julie, i have requested for ideal scope.

Is there anything else I need to request other than idealscope. They said they will not provide helium, sarin and OGI reports for round diamonds. Please advise.

Yup, JA will only provide you with Idealscopes and the gemologist's ranking of the diamonds.

Just ask for the PS discount. Any JA rep will be able to give it to you. I don't know of any other discount better than the PS discount.

Thanks Sortman,

So another concern or question i had was, How old can a GIA certification date be? on the links i had posted in my previous threads the GIA report has a date of late 2011 and early 2012. Is that acceptable, what is the industry standard for this report dates. Please advise.

I don't think that it's uncommon to have an older GIA report. That said, I don't think 2011 and 2012 are necessarily considered old. Read this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/old-gia-report.181101/... I think stones that are higher clarity may not necessarily move as fast as those that are lower.

Thank you and i have been scheduled to have a phone consultation with a gemologist and i wanted to find out what all questions i need to ask the gemelogist. Sorry to ask you all this, since this is my first time i want to know what to ask?

Did the gemologist already come back to you with comments? Ask her to rank the diamonds in order of light performance and which stone faces up the whitest. If it were me, I'd want the stone with the best light performance and then the stone that is highest G color of the 3.

No i will be talking to the gemologist tomorrow and i will ask all those questions.

Also this is the setting i have choosen and wanted to get everyones opinion on this.

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/engagement-rings/solitaire/18k-white-gold-six-prong-knife-edged-solitaire-engagement-ring-handmade-item-2537

Is this good for the round 1.03ct diamond options i have chosen.

Very classic option! Has she tried on this style at Tiffany's? Some people find knife edge uncomfortable (but it seems that most people have no problems with it). I think JA will allow you to customize it and make it without the knife edge too.

No i am keeping this a surprise and she has not tried it out. Is it going to be that sharp that it will be uncomfortable? Also what do you think about the prongs (6 vs 4).

My girl friend has tiny hands so wanted to keep it simple. Simple is always better i guess.

I think it will be fine. And 6 prongs will be lovely.
