Hi Everyone,

I''m a noob at purchasing diamonds. Juz received an email from Union Diamonds telling me about this 0.50 D VVS2 diamond. The sales person thinks its an excellent piece. However, I''ve heard so much about pricescope the the help that you guys render, that I thought it''d be best to get some feed back from you guys too.

So, pls feel free to comment on anything (including union diamonds). I have attached a scanned image of the cert and sarin 3D statistics. Pls help me on this as it''ll prob be used as my engagement ring.

Appreciate all the help i can get, thanks everyone.

Cheers
Wally

If your budget allows it, you can get a bigger stone if you drop down in clarity and color. If your color sensitive, I'd say go as far as an F color. Clarity? You can get very eye clean SI's.

What qualities do you value in a diamond? Personally, I would not get a .5 carat diamond with such high color and clarity. I would go down in clarity quite a bit and down in color a little to get a bigger diamond. As always, cut should be optimal.

Go to the jewlers building in Boston or if you want to travel to New York you can go there. But the prices will be a lot lesss than a jewlery store. Everyone I know bought there diamonds from Barmakians on the 7th floor. Myself included and the price differencial is amazing. We also had the diamonds independently appraised and it appraised all most double when I first bought it. Now 22 years later it''s 5 times what I paid for it.

Thanks for all the input guys,

I''m actually living in Asia so I''ll be shipping it over. I personally would like to get a good quality diamond, hence the criteria for colour D and VVS1. But what do you guys think about the cut based on the reports. Is it ideal?

cheers

it scores a .8 on the hca, which is good. color and clarity have nothing to do with quality, unless you value it for personal reasons. the overall cut is what is going to determine the quality.

I agree.
It might be a great cut, but drop your colour and clarity and put the money into a bigger stone or the setting. Stick with great cut, ofcourse. Go for eyeclean too, and you could go down to SI comfortably.

Colourless goes all the way down to F or G. I would now trade my G for a J having seen some fabulous ones! But I don''t think that you are ready for that....

Good luck.
