I have no clue how to select a step cut, and specifically an emerald.

I'm planning to get one for my wife for her 40th birthday, and will probably have it set into a white gold pendant (very simple setting).

My budget is $6K CDN funds max. Damn that 20% premium on the US dollar right now.

Are any of these any good?

Feel free to comment or recommend another stone. Thank you!

Forum member Gypsy is really the expert on step cuts. Hope she chimes in here.

You'll want to judge EC's by their ASET/Idealscope so read up about how to read those. Out of the ones you posted, the G Vs2 looks best.

Here's a Good Old Gold video (awesome vendor that can help you find an EC, btw) about EC's:

Thank you, that video was very helpful. Perhaps Gypsy will chime in if she/he see's this post.

Another PSer just listed an EC in the preloved section. Not sure if that is the size/quality you are looking for. Take a look!

Interesting. I asked Grace about this diamond today and she said it was put on hold yesterday.

Thanks Neil, but that stone is $1k over budget. Plus my wife prefers a more elongated stone.

Ah well sorry it doesn't work out, but its the same price as the other stones you posted... I could be wrong, but b2c stones you linked are in USD too, no?

The first one was more expensive, but all the others I mentioned were under $6k. ;)

Ah based on your title of this thread and the fact it fell within the prices of the stones you posted I thought that price would be fine.

If I see anything cheaper I'll be sure to pass it along.

Canadian Rocks, the stones you listed from B2C are all in USD (and over budget if it will indeed cost 20% more for you), so it may be best if you did the conversion and listed your max budget in USD -- for those of us who do not reside in Canada or are not familiar with the going exchange rates. :))
