Hi,

I've recently purchased a ring from blue nile and I'm hoping, while I wait on delivery, if you anyone could help and let me know if I've picked wisely.

The ring is 1.1 carats, G color, VS1 and triple excellent cut.

I tried to prioritise cut when searching for a ring. And the ring I chose has the following:

Depth - 61.2%
Table - 58%
Crown - 34.5 degrees
Pavilion - 40.6 degrees
Lower Gridle Facets - 75%
Star Facets - 50%
Cutlet - None
Gridle thickness - medium to slightly thick (faceted 4.0%)
Fluorescence - medium blue

Visually the diamond shows really good contrast levels, and I cant see any signs of obstruction. Although no scopes to double check this.

It scores 0.9 on the HCA.

My main concern was that the table 58% is slightly high? Do you think this will impact the diamond?

Can anyone shed any light as to how they think this will perform?

Thanks :)

I would be worried about this diamond. the 58% table is bigger than the maximum it should be between 55 and 57.

Also the girdle is a little thick - you should be aiming for thin to medium.

When are you due to receive the diamond? You could cancel. Personally I would give them a call and cancel this diamond and ask for suggestions to change it to.

Also is you OH colour sensitive? If so I would change to a F colour diamond.

Finally I wouldn't put too much trust in the 0.9 HCA score.

is it IDEAL? nope. is it an awful stone? nope, i'd say it seems to be a nice stone, probably nicer than many. Angles are good, HCA is good, the photo looks nice. The table might be a bit big merely because of preference. I myself prefer a smaller table. The color should be totally fine, side by side most people are hard pressed to see the difference in an F G and a G should by all means look VERY white.

If you're looking for an Ideal stone and are married to using Blue Nile, try their Astor cut stones. If you can move on to another Vendor, try Whiteflash or Brian Gavin Diamonds or High Performance Diamonds. you get a super ideal, fully vetted stone.

Thanks for the reply Farrahyn. Is it just the table percentage that concerns you about the stone?

When looking online I was using a website called niceice - his percentages for table were between 53-58%, but only afterwards I found other site suggesting 54-57. Although the ranges on niceice seem to be a lot tighter for all the other parameters, such as crown and pavilion.

I did think about Brian Gavin, but I would have to drop down to roughly 0.94 carrots from 1.1 to get a similar priced diamond unfortunately...

I don't think I can cancel yet, think I'll wait and have a look at the diamond when it arrives, I can always use the return policy at blue nile.

Definitely wait to see how you like it in person, you may LOVE it!

Would you be willing to drop clarity? You could drop to SI1/2 and still find an eye clean stone and gain some size. Though i realize some want the "mind clean" stone too. BUt there are other options out there without going the superideal route.

i am guessing your budget is around $6500 for stone?

AGS000 (ideal) stone
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...rat-e-color-si2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-3386208 great color and the inclusion is a rather large feather at 1 o'clock

If you're ok to even dropping to an H color, JA H&A cut

The reason I was looking at blue nile over James allen is because i'm from the UK. Buying from America adds complexes in terms of paying tax and duty separate. Whereas Blue Nile actually have offices in the UK.

Thanks for the options though, both the diamonds you picked look particularly good.

I noticed that blue nile Astor cut stones must be a new selection? Had a look at a few of them there and some seem to be outwith the band that I'm targeting for crown and pavilion angles. Hopefully the diamond I've selected will look nice. Its good to hear other peoples thoughts on the diamond though.

Thanks for the reply. More options welcome of course :)

Any other thoughts on the cut of this diamond? :D

Specs are solid in my books. I personally search up to 58 table so that doesn’t bother me that much.

It’s not the worst stone in the world and it looks decent based off the I’m image. The Astor range looks to be a rebrand of BN’s pre-existing Signature Ideal range. Without having seen a lot of the Astor listings, my concern with their BN Sig Ideal range was the wide variability of cut available across what was supposed to be their “super-ideal” range. But they charged accordingly and weren’t so consistent as James Allen’s True Hearts range.

I agree, the signature range at blue nile seemed like you were paying a premium for a gcal report and nothing else!

Hopefully he specs of the diamond I've chosen will make for a good diamond. I was sure it would before buying but have starting to panic a little whilst waiting on delivery
