Help needed for double halo!

I'm currently in the process of resetting my e-ring into a double halo. I have a 1.3 ct round brilliant in a standard halo right now.

Here is the original ring that I wanted copied and made for my stone. This was in the case at my jewelry store.

I went today to bring my stone in to be set in the ring and this is what I saw. It's totally not like how I wanted. There is a gap in between the halos and just "too much halo" in my opinion. The ring also looks too flat. The jeweler saw that in the original the inner halo is higher than the outer halo, so he suggested raising the inner halo and lining the outside of it with some metal. Do you think this will give me the intended look?

I'm afraid that the ring will not turn out the way I planned it and am very scared! I'm paying a lot of money for this reset and expect it to be exactly as we discussed. What i loved about the original is that it flows seamlessly from stone to halos. The ring I saw today doesn't do that. What should I tell the jeweler when I call tomorrow?

What is the size of the stone in the original ring that was displayed in the jeweler's case?

Have you already paid all or part of the cost? Was there a contract or work order, and if so, what possible recourses do you think you may have in terms of canceling the order or requesting a refund, in case it comes to that (it may not, but it will be good for us to know what your options are as far has being tied to working with the same jeweler versus taking the project elsewhere).

Also, with regards to the "flatness" issue, it is hard to tell what you mean, without a side/profile view of the ring.

Sorry you're having problems with your reset! Hope you find some helpful advice here...

The original has a 1ct stone in the middle. I paid about 35% of the total price as a deposit. I'm not sure what my options are at this point. I'm hoping calling tomorrow and explaining my issues will work. The sales girl I worked with has been amazing so far, and I'm very surprised it didn't turn out exactly as I wanted.

Hi TCBling, sorry your ring didn't turn out as expected, that is a very disappointing feeling. I can see what you're talking about and I see the differences. The center stone also seems set too high. I am not an expert but I'm not sure it can be fixed the way the jeweler suggested. Sometimes when a setting is modified it just ends up worse. It's a shame the jeweler just didn't make the exact ring. I don't know, I'm thinking the ring will have to be remade. Custom work isn't usually refundable but you might be able to work something out if the ring can't be made to look the way you want. Sorry about all of this, I hope you and the jeweler can work something out so that you have a ring you really love.

This looks a lot like (one of!) Nala's settings. I do see the gap in the double halo, and I agree that the stone is set too high (there's a shadow under it FGS). I'd certainly have them try to fix it before you pay the rest!

Actually, my stone is not set yet in the ring. She just placed a loose diamond in the setting for me to get the look of the ring. I spoke with her today, and I think my only option at this point is to trust they can make it work. She said the jeweler has the original and is going to make it how I want. I hopeful for Saturday when I go in to pick it up. :|

Is the diamond in the ring much smaller than yours? In the original picture the diamond really 'fills the space'. This one does not show it as full looking.

I am going to assume that your center diamond is similar in size to the one that was placed temporarily in your setting: What is the diameter of the diamond in the original inspiration setting vs. your diamond? The main difference I see is in the center stone size. Meanwhile, the halo size looks similar on the two rings. I think the original look can be achieved if the halos on your ring are made smaller to be proportional to your center stone (with the same halo tilt angles + minimal halo airline). I don't know if that can be achieved without starting from scratch, with smaller melee, though. I think the original setting is beautiful and would look great if they can achieve the same proportions for your stone. Before they do further work on the ring, it would be a good idea to discuss what would happen if you are still unhappy with the ring after they adjust it- e.g. if you can get a full or partial refund, etc. I hope they're able to help you get what you want!

Hi TCBling,
So sorry to hear you are not happy with the ring. When it comes to double halo's they need to be in proportion to the center diamond.
I personally love halos and own a double halo ring. Take a look at my double halo, notice the diamonds are very small and there is no gap between the halo and center diamond.
Alos both halos are not flat up against each other looking like a big disk. I didn't want that effect. It is also set in an angle so that both halos are not flat, if you know what I mean.
I think you need to talk to the jeweler and explain what exactly you want the ring to look like and possibly show him an inspiration ring that you like and he can get the idea. At the end of the day you and only you have to love love love the ring. You will be looking at it everyday on your finger and need to be happy with it. So I would make sure they do it right or get a refund and go somewhere else.

Did they use 2 different size stones in the halos? Smaller stones in the smaller halo and bigger stones in the bigger halo
like the original ring? To my eyes, they look like they may be the same size.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but I have a hard time saying that the jeweler can fix this that easily.

Thanks for the explanation about the center stone - I'm pulling for you that the jeweler can make it look closer to the look you want.

@ Madison2 - out of curiosity, are you in PR in the picture with the hand shot?! Say maybe at the ESJ towers?! lol :twirl: (sorry, OP for the threadjack!)

Oh Yes acano :D
How did you know? This picture was taken back in April when I was there. This was me having a glass of wine on the terrace and admiring my ring, I am still in love with it and love my double halo

TCBling - I am so sorry this hasn't turned out like you wanted. I saw a ring in a store last December and wanted an EXACT replica of it. Actually, the owner of the store was the owner of the ring. They even sent her ring to the maker to have it replicated. (he was the maker of the original as well) It was a disaster. I ended up having it remade twice, and it just never was the same. I spent a lot of money (to me) on it, and I am still not happy with it. But I cannot afford to sink anymore money into it. The store owner told me the only difference is the size of the stones - hers is a 2 ct, mine is 1.5 ct. I respectfully disagreed. I am so not confrontational, and I accepted the subpar work. so I am just out that money. I do hope that they can rectify this for you. But if they can't fix this piece, really try and get something that you can be happy with! I have been wearing my ring for about 8 months, and I still just don't love it. And that is no fun....... :eh:

Unsettled -- I'm hoping I'm happy on Saturday. The inner halo stones are smaller than the outer ones. I just don't understand how the jeweler can't replicate their own ring! I thought this would be easy, but it's turning into a huge stress for me. When you are spending so much money on a reset you want it to be perfect. The ring I saw is EXACTLY what I wanted and was so happy to have found it. I do expect to express my dismay about the ring if need be. So far working with this jewelry store has been a great experience, so I'm confident they will work to make this exactly what I want.

I'll update with pics on Saturday!

Hopefully everything will be fine and they will replicate the ring for your diamond specs. Try not to worry to much about it now and loose sleep over it. Saturday will be here in one more day then you will see it and decide if its to your liking.
Keep calm and think positive :D

@Madison2 Haha I knew it!! I've been going there since I was a little girl and even learned to swim in the deep end of that pool :D . My parents have a timeshare in that building so I would recognize that view and background anywhere (obviously!)! But your bling definitely rivals the beauty!!! :wavey:
