After looking at a number of styles for the last 7 months, I’m finally getting ready to set a CBI into a 5-stone design. I’m on round 3 of CADs with DK and could use some help on a detail I’ve been obsessing over. I also welcome any general feedback.
The design is a graduated 5-stone with pear end stones, and the first CAD had me worried over the size of the four side stones. So, I had them increased to look more proportional to the center. Here’s the second CAD with the change:
When I got the model, I noticed the ends flaired much higher than I expected and wondered if the pears would ultimately be more flushed once set. I guess I’m concerned about the tips catching on things and being able to tell that there are pear end stones.
David is wonderful about making changes and here is the resulting third CAD.
He commented that he thinned the ends and his setter would “hammer them in and down when setting.” I’m having a hard time envisioning what this will look like and now worry it’ll look too modern compared to the rest of the design. Am I correct that it would now look like these tips?
As an aside, I scored some beautiful 4mm GIA graded rounds to use from a dear friend. I had shared the MRB guidelines I use when she was searching for a pair of matched stones for earrings. She bought these rounds but ultimately decided they were too small for her tastes, so she passed them to me. I was able to take some ASETs of these lil babies and discovered they look pretty nice!
Anywho, I would love to hear what y’all think of either CAD - I keep going round and around in my mind and would like to spare DK any further craziness. lol
