Hi everyone,
Firstly thanks for the education you have given me so far. :wavey:
I got engaged about 4 weeks ago... never realised there was SO much science behind a diamond until now!

We are in the process of buying an engagement ring from Jogia Diamonds. A friend of mine had her engagement ring made there and had a great experience. The post by Symo was really helpful to the final decision too! I checked out the prices for the same diamonds at online sellers in the US and prices were comparable as well. I was especially keen as I can go over to Aus for the weekend and get it duty free- which amounts to a decent saving.

Anyway, I chose a diamond and designed my setting (see profile pic). I got the ASET back for the diamond I chose and phoned Mr Jogia to discuss as I was a little concerned about the light leakage. He assured me that it would be better than any diamond I would find in Auckland in a jewellery store, so I gave it the go ahead. They are in the process of manufacturing it now. When I chose my diamond there weren’t a great variety of options, and I was happy with my choice at the time… NOW I’M REGRETTING IT!

It may not be too late to change the diamond, so I would really appreciate your help… My question is, am I really likely to notice much of a difference between the one I have chosen and the alternative??

The diamond I have chosen is cheaper than the alternative and less included (I am likely to look at it about 2cm from my face so wanted it completely eye clean), but the alternative is larger and the ASET looks a lot better… but I don’t want to pay $1000NZD if it’s not going to look noticeably more impressive :wink2: oh help! Please let me know if I have chosen a dud! I have trouble interpreting ASET images, but it looks to me like there is a lot of leakage.

…this is the diamond I have chosen…

and the link to the alternative...

Any thoughts most appreciated
Thanks in advance :)

Pictures of the setting, I think I will get a channel set baguette wedding ring to go with it :)

Is there any way you can compare the stones in person? IMO there is likely to a noticeable difference based on the images. Not only is there less leakage in the alternative, but the patterning is more crisp as well.

Because of the size difference of the two stones and because they have begun to manufacture the ring, changing the stone now may be difficult. Of course it will depend on what type of setting you chose. I think that you should contact your vendor and discuss your concerns and find out if changing the stone at this point is a good option. If it is then I'd ask for them to do a side by side comparison of the two stones before you made a decision.

Thanks guys.
Unfortunately I can't compare the stones in person as they are in Aussie and they don't send them to NZ, makes me realise it is best to do at least a couple of months research before purchase- I felt like I had put enough time into that but that was before I discovered PS!!!
Yes- I am concerned about whether it is too late as well- will make contact tomorrow to discuss my concerns.

Do you think the stone will still be fairly bright? i.e. better than what you would find in B&M store like the vendor says? I guess that is my biggest concern- whether $2,346.00 (thats USD) was too much to pay for a 'dud' stone... setting cost $1,689.30 USD- from looking at other posts it seems I would have been better off to choose a simple setting and pay more for the stone :( oh woe is me!!!

p.s. ain't life sweet when a bad ASET is your biggest concern!!! :D

Hello MarieCC, I was wondering how you got on with your Jogia diamond purchase? Did you proceed with it?
We are also looking to purchase from this on-line site from NZ so are very keen to hear if everything went smoothly for you?
Thanks.

In this case I think everyone is correct. Jogia told you that the stone you picked will be better than anything you'll find in a standard jewelry store. I believe that's correct. This is what we at PS like to call a "nice make" of princess, meaning that it will outshine most out there but isn't the best of the best. There is a bit of leakage around the corners of the table, but there's also a good deal of red in the ASET, so I think it will be a sparkly stone in person. However, I do prefer both the ASET and the facet patterning of the other stone and I think there will be a visible difference in person. If you can get the setting changed to accommodate the new stone, I'd go for it. If you can't, the first one you picked out is not going to be a dud. What you have here is good vs. better, not bad vs. good. Hope that helps.

Interesting comments on the setting sketch... and very pretty!
